Japan is home to some of weirdest and most wonderful gaming paraphernalia in the world, and it thus comes as no surprise that a marvellously adorned DualShock 3 controller will be released there alongside one of the biggest games of the year.
Sony plans to release software to allow players to connect their PSP system to a PS3, in order for said player to make use of their DualShock 3 controller.
The functionality will make its first appearance with the release of Resistance: Retribution for the PSP, which gives players the opportunity to play the game with the DualShock 3, not only using the dual-analog sticks, but rumble as well.
It’s not yet clear whether you then play the game via the PS3 on your TV, or you simply, somehow, use the PSP for visuals (wouldn’t you need a stand to hold the PSP?).
UPDATE: It appears as though you’ll be able to play both on your TV and on the PSP… just prop it up… More information is also available on the interconnectivity between Resistance: Retribution and Resistance 2, n the US PlayStation blog.
Sony has confirmed that the Dualshock 3 wireless controller for the PS3 is shipping to North American stores this week and will arrive on shelves next week. It will retail at $54.99.
Get ready to rumble!
Sony also released a list of compatible games on SCEA’s PlayStation blog. Some titles will require gamers to download a patch before the rumble feature will be activated. The patch will automatically download to the PS3 once the console is connected online. These titles are marked with an asterisk on the list below.
Sony also launched a page on the PlayStation website which will detail titles that use force feedback. The page will be updated as new titles become compatible. Gamers can also look out for the icon which will identify which new software releases are Dualshock 3 compatible.
Sony’s Dualshock 3 wireless controller includes pressure sensors that will rumble with actions as well as SIXAXIS technology to incorporate motion control and Bluetooth technology to support wireless game play.
