The Nintendo DS continues to sell well the world over, bolstered by the release of some fantastic games like Dragon Quest IX, Picross 3D, Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story and many more!
This year we also saw the DSi XL being added to the popular family of handhelds, a console that features a 93 percent bigger touch screen and a bigger play screen, a wider viewing angle, and a larger pen-like stylus, culminating in what is quite possibly the ultimate version of Nintendo’s DS. It’s definitely true that once you try the DSi XL, regular DS consoles simply won’t do - just ask El33tonline’s Editor In Chief!
However, if you haven’t joined the handheld gaming world yet, then you might want to take a look at a few new ways to enjoy this super-sized method of portable gaming, including the New Super Mario DSi XL Special Edition Pack and new colour options for the DSi XL.

Nintendo has announced that new orange and green Nintendo DSi systems will be available across North America this Friday to celebrate Black Friday, the unofficial start of the holiday 2010 shopping season in the US.
The orange and green Nintendo DSi systems will be bundled with a copy of Mario Party DS, and will be available from the 26th of November for $149.99 while stocks last. These new colours will no doubt help to contribute even further to Nintendo DS sales, which stand at 43 million units in the US as at the end of October.
El33tonline’s Lisa recently partook in a whirlwind tour of New York City while visiting the US on important business, and while taking in the sights and sounds of the Big Apple, she managed to visit the Nintendo World Store, snap some great pictures, and tell us all about the magical and storied location.
Unfortunately, though, Lisa just missed an appearance at the store by Mr. Nintendo himself, the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto, as he and a crew of Nintendo executives descended upon the location to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Super Mario Bros.
As something of a tiny consolation for everyone who missed his appearance at the store (including Lisa), Nintendo has released a fantastic special message from Miyamoto himself speaking about the 25th anniversary, what makes Mario so special, and what Nintendo has planned for fans to help celebrate the massive milestone.
Enjoy:
Exciting news, South African gamers! The mystical red anniversary Nintendo Wii will officially be coming to South Africa very soon, at a price that you’ll find more than agreeable!
Not only that, but the just-as-magical celebratory red DSi XL has been launched in the country today, also priced just right considering what you get in the bundle.
Nintendo of Europe has announced that the New Super Mario Bros. Wii Pack (or ‘the red Wii bundle’) will indeed be making its way to the region’s shores, as reported earlier today with the appearance of an image of the PAL version of the console.
To celebrate 25 years of Super Mario Bros., European gamers will be able to get their hands on a super Wii bundle which includes a red Wii, a red Wii Remote Plus, a red Nunchuk, and a total of three games, namely New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Wii Sports, and a pre-installed version of the original Donkey Kong, in homage to Mario’s first ever appearance in a videogame.
Did you think that Nintendo’s DSi XL ‘technicolour makeover’ was only going to be offered to gamers overseas? Well think again, because Nintendo of South Africa recently announced that the handheld console will be available in the country in three brand new colours starting tomorrow, October 8th!
In addition to the Wine Red and Dark Brown consoles, Yellow, Green and Blue DSi XL variants will be making their way to retailers tomorrow, but still giving you the same enhanced DS experience.
Nintendo has announced that the DSi XL will be available in three bright new colours across Europe this October.
The publisher will be launching the newest addition to its handheld gaming family in yellow, green and blue on the 8th of October. This new range of colour options was launched in Japan in June and has proved popular since then.
Of course you’ll still be able to purchase the two launch colours, Wine Red and Dark Brown, if you choose.
Nintendo of America has announced that it will be dropping the prices of the DSi and DSi XL in North America.
From the 12th of September the DSi will retail for $149.99 while the DSi XL will be available for $169.99. The DS Lite will remain at $129.99.
It’s another week at the top of Media Create’s Japanese Hardware Sales chart for Nintendo’s DSi LL, with over 32 000 units sold for the period ending July 4th, thanks in no small part to the whopping release of Inazuma Eleven 3: World Challenge!! for the DS.
Nintendo’s DSi LL continues its newfound dominant streak this week in the Japanese hardware sales chart, still riding the wave of popularity thanks to a welcome price drop and the introduction of a range of new colours for the system, managing to sell just over 40 000 units for the week.
The recent release of Love Plus + and Tokimeki Memorial: Girl’s Side 3rd Story for the DS probably didn’t hurt sales either.
As expected, however, sales of the other DS models, the DSi and Lite, are around about flat compared to the week previous, as would-be DS customers look for the better deal.
The DSi LL shoots to the top of the Japanese hardware chart, thanks to the price drop and new colours being released this week. The latest iteration of Nintendo’s handheld sells an impressive 30 183 units, almost three times last week’s rather dismal performance of 11 138 units.
Sales of the Nintendo DS have been stagnant over the past few weeks with would-be purchasers holding out for the new price point for both the DSi and LL and new range of colours (blue, yellow and green) for the DSi LL which were released in Japan on the 19th of June.
