Let’s forget about Mass Effect 3 and its endings for a little bit and talk about BioWare’s other major and current RPG franchise, Dragon Age.
What’s up with that, then?
While fans would desperately like to know what’s next for the fantasy-based action role-playing series, it seems as though developer BioWare is just as keen to find out what the future has in store for its universe of magic and monsters. And dragons.
There’s been no shortage of movies and TV series based on famous videogames of late, and I consider this to be a good thing. These tie-ins take zero resources away from the actual game developers and give the franchise in question some much needed visibility in non-gaming sectors. There’s also the chance that one of these projects might go on to surpass the expectations of producers and fans alike.
“Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker” is an anime adaption of BioWare’s fruitful foray into dark fantasy. The film is being crafted by Texas-based Funimation Entertainment in collaboration with EA and BioWare.
The good Major Nelson has just let everyone know that, starting next week, those of you browsing Xbox LIVE Marketplace will be able to enjoy 50 percent-off savings on batches of EA published content, including game add-ons for Dragon Age, Medal of Honor and FIFA 11, as well as full games like RISK: Factions, DeathSpank and Battlefield 1943.
The EA content sale starts on January 24th, so head on down below to get the full list of goodies that will be receiving prices cuts:
After releasing its fiscal third quarter results recently, EA revealed its intended release line-up for the upcoming year and beyond, with mentions going to a bevy of sequels, a console version of The Sims 3, and that mystery shooter from Epic Games and its subsidiary, People Can Fly.
EA’s financial results for the first quarter of the fiscal year are looking a little droopy, as losses of $234 million (up $95 million last year) dragged the company’s performance down.
EA CEO John Riccitiello says, however, that their quarterly net revenue of $644 million is “better than expected,” even though that number is down from $804 million during the same period last year:
“Good execution delivered better-than-expected financial results in the first quarter,” said Riccitiello.
Driving this performance were the releases of The Sims 3 (with 3.7 million units sold), EA Sports Active (1.8 million units sold) and Fight Night Round 4.
The Sims 3 was notably the top selling game at retail in both North America and Europe for the quarter combined, while EA Sports Active is now officially EA’s most successful Wii game, helping EA to a 21% and 13% share of that console’s market in North America and Europe respectively.
