South Africans love them. Most other parts of the world hate them. I am of course talking about the ‘wonderfully’ ‘unique’ ‘instrument,’ the vuvuzela horn.

Vuvuzela

Able to generate vast decibels of vibrating, skull-drilling noise with little more than an altered whistling technique, the vuvuzela is now capable of reducing minions and demons of hell to gobs of bloody flesh.

How is this possible? How is anything in this crazy world made possible? Through a DOOM II modification, of course!

Watch below as a DOOM II player decimates enemies with nothing but a blow on the horn:

At this stage, we may as well call the weekly Xbox LIVE Activity ranking the ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Plus Other’ ranking, because week after week, time after time, this insidious (in all the right ways) game consistently shows up at the top of the chart, meaning it’s always the most played game on Xbox LIVE.

This dominance is only set to get worse, with the release of the next map pack, Resurgence, tomorrow (June 3rd), exclusively on Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

It is interesting, however, the way Red Dead Redemption has effortlessly climbed up the listing since its recent launch…

Xbox LIVE Logo SmallerAs for best selling Xbox LIVE Arcade games, the newly released DOOM II sits comfortably at the top of this particular chart, with Game Room (and its assortment of games) and Toy Soldiers following behind. Doom II Box ArtAlongside the release of an “innovative” puzzle game called Voodoo Dice on Xbox LIVE Arcade tomorrow, we’ll also see the launch of id Software’s classic DOOM II on the service (yes, just like that - all caps and Roman numerals).

While Voodoo Dice has been priced at 800 MS Points, no price has yet been set for DOOM II, but if the release of the original game on XBLA, DOOM, is anything to go by, DOOM II may also be 800 MS Points (although DOOM is currently sitting at 400 MS Points after a price reduction).

Let’s all pretend we’ve been transported way, way back to the days of DOOM II’s original release in 1994, and see what the developers (including John Romero and American McGee) have to say about the game’s ‘imminent’ release:

Doom II Box ArtAfter receiving an interesting reader question regarding the future of an Xbox LIVE Arcade version of id Software’s classic Doom II, videogame consumer site Destructoid took the query straight to the top: Bethesda’s VP of Public Relations and Marketing, Pete Hines.

Why Bethesda? Well, after the whole Zenimax/Bethesda/id Sofware acquisition, this is the group that would publish the game on Xbox LIVE if it were ever to release.

So what did Hines have to say about the possibility of Doom II appearing on Xbox LIVE Arcade in the future?
