Gamers are a very weird breed. We want the very latest information and imagery to find out about our most anticipated games in the lead up to their release, but there are certain lines we won’t cross.
For example, we may voraciously consume every screenshot and trailer released for a game like Mass Effect 3, but we won’t dare touch a potential story spoiler (contained in a piece of downloadable content, no less!), for fear of ruining the game.
Our Question of the Day then becomes:
Are you tempted to look at game leaks and rumours?
After a collection of leaked screenshots were dumped onto the ‘net yesterday, supposedly showcasing areas from id Software’s still in-development DOOM 4 project, a brand new selection of images have appeared with more areas from the game on show.
Just to add credence to the idea that these screenshots are from the next DOOM game, some of the images were labelled ‘before hell wave’ while a number of the screens included renders of models that looked decidedly hellish in nature, with buildings being ‘eaten’ and ‘nests’ of goop coagulating in corners.
We haven’t included the renders, but here are a batch of new screenshots from… a game that’s being made… somewhere:
A quick-fire rumour emerging today once again swirled around the possible cancellation of id Software’s DOOM 4 (or ‘next DOOM’) project, but parent company Bethesda Softworks was once again quick to squash that particular bit of speculation amid an apparent leak of screenshots from the game.
Are these images from DOOM 4? They certainly look of the calibre of something like RAGE and the id Tech 5 engine. Decide for yourself by perusing the rest of the shots below:
Following quick-fire rumours (and denials) late last year regarding the shaky future of id Software and the continued development of DOOM 4 (or ‘the next DOOM game’), it’s been confirmed that a number of developers have been let go from the studio.
As has become du jour, the news sparked on Twitter as 3D artist and Polycount.com editor Adam Bromell posted:
[Update] Added response from VP of PR and Marketing at Bethesda Softworks, Pete Hines. [End of Update]
Rumours and reports doing the rounds today concern the future (or not) of the next entry to id Software’s legendary DOOM series of first-person shooters.
