Xbox LIVE Logo SmallerWhen Xbox frontman Major Nelson posted a list of upcoming Xbox LIVE content the other day, in amongst the talk of brand new Xbox LIVE games, Games on Demand titles heading to the service and an upcoming free Xbox LIVE Gold weekend, he also mentioned something about special price offers on digital content for a range of Activision games.

No further information was forthcoming… until now!

From now until January 17th, Xbox LIVE members will be able to take advantage of all kinds of great deals on massive amounts of Activision-related content: Everything must go!

Here’s the list:

Why must this time of year always be so busy? It’s school holidays, Christmas time for those that celebrate, holiday trips are being planned, loads and loads of shopping needs to be done, you’re going out with friends, and trying to make time for gaming… Why can’t we pause everything else and just game first? Thus I must duly apologise for El33tonline’s review of DJ Hero 2 being late - I would have preferred to use an alibi such as saying the game is so awesome that it kept drawing me in to play instead of doing its review.

Well, the game is really awesome, but that story would be far-fetched as the deck isn’t imbued with any form of magical powers… but enough drivel! Let’s get to it!

Music Game InstrumentsIt’s no secret that the music game genre is a little… crowded these days, as Activision Blizzard continues to release at least one Guitar Hero game every year, which is now accompanied by what will be annual entries into the DJ Hero franchise. Harmonix, too, has its Rock Band franchise spilling out all over the place, with no less than five series entries to date, with a sixth releasing this past week.

With all of this choice and a resultant market deluge, sales of titles in the music game genre have been on the decline for a while, with a string of less than stellar Guitar Hero games, worse than expected retail performance by The Beatles: Rock Band (and the invisible releases of Green Day: Rock Band and LEGO Rock Band), as well as underwhelming initial sales numbers for the original DJ Hero.

Fallout: New Vegas Logo

Debut title and massive RPG Fallout: New Vegas managed to become the top-selling game in the UK this past week, claiming No. 1 on Chart Track’s UK Software Sales listing after only two days on sale.

Fallout: New Vegas was able to effortlessly outclass the launch week performance of Bethesda Softworks’ previous Fallout title, Fallout 3 in 2008, as New Vegas racked up 29% more unit sales across its three platforms (PS3, Xbox 360 and PC).

In the past, we here at El33tonline may have claimed that this or that content update for the PlayStation Store was ‘the biggest’ or ‘the best,’ or even ‘the greatest of all time.’

No. I’m going to come clean here and say that this was all false lip service. We deceived you, fair reader, and for this we are sorry.

PlayStation Network LogoBut, how could we have known to reserve our praise of bounteous content updates until today, and this moment? Because it turns out that this week’s PlayStation Store content update for US users is by far the most amazing revision to the service we’ve ever seen!

There’s far, far too much content to discuss, but highlights include the addition of DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue, demos for DJ Hero 2 and Enslaved, PSOne Import games Cho Aniki and Gaia Seed, free DLC for Dead Rising 2, DLC for Red Dead Redemption, a new set of PlayStation Plus content… plus much more!

Have a look through the full list of new content now available on the US PlayStation Store below:

Unfortunately, you’ll need to be an Xbox LIVE Gold member to try them out.

Additionally, a demo for Ubisoft’s strategy game, RUSE, has similarly emerged out of the shadows and into the light of Xbox LIVE. Thankfully, no Xbox LIVE Gold membership is required for this one.

Here are all the details you need:

With tracks from Lady Gaga, DeadMau5, Daft Punk and more, you can be sure developer Freestyle is sticking to its promise of delivering a DJ Hero game with more variety and focus on dance tracks… although the likes of Eminem, Rihanna and Kanye West are also represented to mix it up.

VP of music affairs at Activision, Tim Riley, said in a statement:

Activision has unveiled the 108-member list of music artists and acts that will contribute tracks to the publisher’s next platter-spinning music rhythm game, DJ Hero 2.

All of the usual club anthem staples are there, including Daft Punk, Deadmau5, Lady Gaga, The Prodigy and Basement Jaxx, with a healthy selection and injection of hip-hop stars like Eminem, 50 Cent, Dr. Dre and Puff Daddy. Other genres of music are also represented with the likes of Rihanna, Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder and Metallica.

Of course, just like the original DJ Hero, all of the tracks from contributing artists will be paired up and mashed together, hopefully with the same successful results.

Activision Publishing has just officially announced that DJ Hero 2 is in development at FreeStyleGames, following numerous comments and rumours to this effect earlier this year.

Activision says that with DJ Hero 2, “living rooms will transform into nightclubs letting budding beat chemists, singing sensations and all of their friends party together by firing up two turntable controllers and a microphone to experience their favourite music as they’ve never heard it before.”

In comments made to Game Informer last month, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick has confirmed that a follow-up to last year’s excellent-but-slightly-flawed DJ Hero is in the works, and somewhat dubiously admitted that they didn’t “get it right” the first time around.

Speaking about the publisher’s commitment to new and original intellectual property (IP) for the long haul, Kotick said:

While it could very well be a foregone conclusion that Activision will release a sequel to last year’s excellent (but coolly received) DJ Hero, we may have seen the first sign that such a follow-up is underway, after international DJ David Guetta casually announced that he will be working on the ‘number two version’ of the game. Speaking to Kelowna.com, Guetta said:
