Who will deliver us from the software sales chart dominance of Zumba Fitness in the UK? What game is tough enough to compete? Will the combined might of Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Rugby World Cup 2011 on August 26th be enough to outsell this supposed juggernaut?
One thing’s for sure: We need to act fast. The longer Zumba Fitness remains at the top, the more fit it becomes! Before long, other games won’t be able to keep up!
It’s not often that us Durbanites have an opportunity to congregate en masse at a locally-hosted gaming event. Therefore the “Xbox Masters” this coming Saturday represents a rare occasion where we can go toe-to-toe with some of best competitive gamers in Durban and see how far up (or down) the pecking order we fall.
It’s always fun to see a new and unknown game hit the top of Chart Track’s UK Software Sales Chart and stay at No. 1 for a few weeks, to the frustration and chagrin of other, better established franchises like Call of Duty, FIFA and Battlefield.
When that title begins to outstay its welcome, however, those better established franchises tend to get a little… exacerbated, and now that Zumba Fitness has remained at No. 1 for five weeks in a row, and has managed to top the chart for a total of eight weeks this year, Activision, EA and other publishers must be pulling their hair out.
This is an incredible run for 505 Games/Majesco Entertainment’s fitness game, Zumba Fitness, as the title has once again topped Chart Track’s UK Software Sales listing for the fourth week in a row.
This means that Zumba Fitness has sat at No. 1 on the chart for a total of seven weeks since earlier this year, and during a week of little resistance in terms of new games, the title is certainly capitalising on the opportunity to rack up sales.
DiRT 3 (sales up 28%) is the first game to offer a fight to the new chart king, moving from No. 7 to No. 2 during a week of price promotions in the UK. Transformers: Dark of the Moon (sales up 10%) is also a worthy adversary thanks to the release of the film of the same name, shifting up three places to No. 3 this week.
As El33tonline’s review of DiRT 3 will tell you, the game is mighty and swiftly usurped its predecessor for the crown of rally racer king.
The big new addition to the DiRT series is gymkhana, which is a real-world contest that could be described as a sort of ‘car ballet,’ where competitors perform stunts with their cars in a specially designed obstacle course in an effort to ‘wow’ judges and delight the crowds.
El33tonline and Megarom teamed up again to give away two amazing DiRT 3 prizes, and all you had to do to win one was ‘wow’ the El33tonline judges by describing the perfect series of tricks and obstacle course runs that you would try to perform in gymkhana, in DiRT 3.
Who impressed us the most?
One of the best things about the PlayStation Network service restoration is being able to check out the US PlayStation Store every Wednesday morning (South African time) for new content. This week there’s not much in the way of killer apps, but if you look carefully enough you should find a couple of games and add-ons to make your shopping trip worthwhile.
If you’re a PlayStation Plus subscriber don’t bother checking for free dynamic themes - there are none. I don’t know about you but that’s the first thing I look for!
DiRT 3 is one of the best racers around. It offers a deep yet accessible racing experience with plenty of variety in disciplines and cars. It’s a beautiful-looking game with remarkable attention to detail, and is also technically superior to many of its rivals. Multiplayer is brilliantly executed, with enough compelling modes to keep you coming back day after day.
DiRT 3 also has a chunky singleplayer mode, which should keep you busy for at least 20 hours before you’ve seen all the content in the game – though that’s not to say you’ll have completed the impressive scope of DiRT 3’s challenges by then.

Despite a massive 56% drop in sales compared to the week previous, Rockstar and Team Bondi’s action thriller LA Noire is still able to command the top position on Chart Track’s UK Software Sales listing.
It’s been another busy week here at El33t Towers, with plenty of E3 news already starting to trickle in over the past few days.
Next week will be a crazy time, with the team working around the clock to bring you the latest announcements and reveals from LA. However, before then the show must go on so we’ll be hard at work this weekend putting the latest titles through their paces to keep you up to date on what’s new on our gaming shelves.
Take a deep breath everyone, it’s almost E3 time! Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride.
It’s been a busy day for Codemasters, first they revealed new screenshots for their upcoming first-person shooter Bodycount, and now they’ve announced that the Colin McRae Vision Charity Pack is out now for DiRT 3.
El33tonline and Megarom have teamed up to bring you the chance to win two awesome DiRT 3 hampers.
If you’d like a copy of this new off-road rally racing game, along with buttons, lanyard, a mug and DC T-Shirt tucked inside this cool hamper, then head over to our DiRT 3 competition page right now and get your entry in.
Good luck everybody!
Rockstar and Team Bondi continue their collective sales dominance in the UK this week as LA Noire (unsurprisingly) appears at the very top of Chart Track’s UK Software Sales listing, despite a 43% drop in sales compared to the week previous.
This means that debut title DiRT 3 from Codemasters is unable to claim No. 1 during its first week on sale, instead having to settle for No. 2.
PS3 gamers are still unable to play the online portion of DiRT 3 because a “VIP Pass” needs to be redeemed in the still-shuttered PlayStation Store before this feature is unlocked. The pass also grants access to five new vehicles as well as YouTube video sharing.
As Tom points out below, South Africa has recently become gripped in a severely icy chill which is (hopefully) due dissipate in the next few days, but it’s no longer deniable: Old Man Winter has arrived in the country, and he’s as grumpy as ever.
What’s a gamer to do? Again, Tom provides an interesting thought on the correct course of action to take while ensconced in the cold, as do other members of El33tonline as we discuss what will be keeping us warm over the next two days:
Finally! Codemasters’ latest rally racing masterpiece is available now around the world for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, and if you’re looking for an authentic off-road racing simulator with what seems to be an intense amount of fun features packed in, you can do no better than DiRT 3!
To mark today’s launch, Codemasters has put out a smooth (and raucous) trailer for DiRT 3 showcasing the detailed cars and dazzling environments of the game, with glimpses at both rally and Gymkhana gameplay.
