From a posting on the Polish Blizzard Entertainment’s website, not only will the studio be bringing “exhibition matches, live raids, competitions and other attractions” to gamescom in Cologne, Germany this year, but attendees will also have the chance to go hands-on with Diablo III and StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm.

New York Times writer Seth Schiesel recently got some hands-on time with Diablo III, the next industry crushing title from Blizzard Entertainment, and while Schiesel discovered a few new interesting morsels of information about the game proper, game director at Blizzard Jay Wilson gave millions of us a little more hope that this titanic new action RPG may see a 2011 release.

When Diablo III was first officially unveiled a couple years ago, developer Blizzard Entertainment showcased a game with visuals that many thought were heavily influenced by the company’s other runaway hit, World of Warcraft, what with its over-exaggerated proportions, unique colour palette, the looks of the special effects, and even the design of some of the enemies.

Now that BlizzonCon 10 is over, we can look through the settling dust to see what news and interesting morsels of information we can discover… and it seems as though Blizzard Entertainment is keen to let fans know that the developer’s upcoming action RPG extravaganza, Diablo III, is coming along just fine.

Amongst the reveals during the weekend of fantasy and science fiction revelry included the fact that there will be a closed beta for Diablo III, while the fifth and final character class, the Demon Hunter, was also showcased for the first time.

Speaking with gaming and gadget consumer site, Techland, Blizzard’s executive vice president of game design, Rob Pardo, has confirmed that Diablo III will not be releasing next year, and is uncertain when a solidified release date will be available for the hugely anticipated action RPG.

Blizzard's Rob PardoThis may come as a disappointment to fans of the series, to which Pardo and co. at Blizzard are sympathetic, as he laments over the fact that the developer always seems to announce its games “too early,” but always strives to announce its next game closer to its respective release date, which is difficult, says Pardo:

“We realize that and go, ‘You know what? Next time we’re not going to [announce games too early].’ And then we always fail at that. But I’d rather fail at that than fail at making the game great. I think it’s safe to say that, yeah, (Diablo III) is not going to be out next year.”
