If you’re one of ‘those’ people that was reviled by the idea of Devil May Cry’s Dante sporting an all-black hairdo (as opposed to his iconic shock of white), then you may want to watch all the way to the end of the latest trailer for Ninja Theory’s DmC (also known as ‘the Devil May Cry reboot’) for a wink and a nod towards the developer’s future plans for the ‘do.

But seriously though. Does the hair colour of the storied protagonist really matter when the action looks so insanely cool?

According to Capcom the popular Devil May Cry series has just passed the 10 million worldwide sales mark.

The first game in the series was released in 2001 while Devil May Cry 4 was released on current generation consoles in 2008. Capcom believe that the change of main characters encouraged new players to take a look at the series, leading to an impressive 2.2 million copies of the game sold.

Devil May Cry 4 has not only wooed gamers but artists too. The game walked away with an award for excellence at the Japan Game Awards 2008 and was also selected as an entertainment division jury recommended work at the 2008 Japan Media Arts Festival.

Emerging from the mind of Devil May Cry creator, Hideki Kamiya, and in development at Platinum Games, Bayonetta is shaping up to be one crazy, action-packed thrill-ride.

Looking like it takes inspiration from both Devil May Cry and God of War, Bayonetta puts you in control of the titular hero whose hair holds the energy necessary to pull off some of her more crazy stunts. Not only that, but her clothes are completely made from her hair so, when she uses a powerful attack, her hair is used during the move and is thus removed from her body. You see where this is going?

Well, despite all that, the game is looking awesome, as the trailer below, equal parts in-game footage and CG animation, demonstrates.

DC Comics and Capcom will be joining forces to create a comic book series based on Capcom’s popular video game series Resident Evil and Devil May Cry.

While details on the new series including the creative team and launch month will only be announced later, we do know that DC Comics’ WildStorm imprint will be publishing both titles.

“We’re ecstatic that Resident Evil is returning to WildStorm, where we have already established deep roots into the mythos of this world,” said Hank Kanalz, Vice President/General Manager for WildStorm. “We can’t wait to continue, and bring a freshness and excitement to the property to match the amazing things they are doing with the game.”

“Dante, Nero and the world of Devil May Cry is a perfect fit for the sensibilities of our studio. We have such terrific inspiration from the anime and games and we intend on meeting the exceptionally high standard of quality that has been set for this.”

Resident Evil 5 - Chris RedfieldThe Resident Evil series has proved its popularity by selling over 34 million units since the original game was released in 1996. Chris Redfield returns in Resident Evil 5, along with a new partner, Sheva Alomar, to discover the truth behind a new threat that arises in Africa. Resident Evil 5 is scheduled to arrive on the Xbox 360 and PS3 in March 2009.

Devil May Cry 4 is the latest in the popular Devil May Cry series. The game sees players stepping into the shoes of both Dante and Nero. DMC4 has shifted over 2 million units in the US since it was released in February.

According to Germaine Gioia, Capcom’s Senior Vice President of Licensing “Comics are a critical component in Capcom’s merchandising strategy for our most cherished franchises, as they target the same discerning, loyal fans that care most about these established brands.”
