Gamasutra have recently put up a great article revealing Game Developer magazine’s top developers of 2008. It’s quite a list, and a great way to keep tabs on people in the game development industry and their contributions throughout the year.
Presented as a deck of cards, each developer gets assigned to a card in the deck, while covering the categories ‘Trailblazers’, ‘Progressives’, ‘Ambassadors’ and ‘Entrepreneurs.’ The categories and the people within are not ranked in any order, but have instead been chosen to honour their contributions during 2008.

Will Wright, creator of and lead developer on such hits as SimCity, SimAnt, SimCopter, The Sims and now more recently, Spore, is widely regarded as one of the most prolific game designers and creators in the industry, while his games have inspired the imagination of millions of players throughout the world.
While Will Wright’s games are sure to appear on many a gamers’ ‘favourites list’, what are Will Wright’s top five favourite games? You may or may not be surprised to discover that his 5th favourite game is Civilisation. Wright says; “I think the strategic diversity of ‘Civilization’ always interested me. There’s just so many different strategic approaches to playing the game.”
The rest of the list can be found on MSNBC.
