EL33TONLINE: News tag archive: developerinterview
As highly anticipated games from companies of all descriptions seem to have been delayed by months (and even into 2013), Darksiders fans breathed a collective sigh of relief recently when THQ dated Darksiders II for the month of June. No exact release date yet, but it’s a start!
To keep the anticipation high, G4 recently went live with a video interview with Vigil Games general manager David Adams, once again talking about the differences between protagonists War and Death…
… but what’s special about this video is that it contains brand new gameplay footage from Darksiders II - catch it now:
With the ‘shocking’ (READ: Expected Any Day Now) announcement of Resident Evil 6 two weeks ago with that jaw-dropping trailer, action, horror and survival horror fans around the world finally got the confirmation they’ve been waiting for - Capcom is going big!
We can all agree that a game’s sound and music can immeasurably improve any given title and both elements are able to ratchet up the intensity and atmosphere of what would otherwise be a mediocre experience.
The importance of sound and music in a game, then, cannot be underestimated and the developers at Big Huge Games are very aware that the audio of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is another chance to set this action RPG apart from similar games.
By now, it’s no secret that there are members of El33tonline who would like nothing better than to magically find a copy of Darksiders II sitting on their desk right this instant, but unfortunately we’re going to have to wait a few months more to go hands-on with Vigil’s next action adventure masterwork.
Until then, we’ll have to content ourselves with smatterings of screenshots and trailers for the game, and by watching a developer diary discussing the series’ all-new protagonist, Death.
After the first official reveal of Sorcery for PlayStation Move at E3 2010, the game has gone into hibernation with little to no new information released since gamescom 2010 months later.
Finally, and here at the tail-end of 2011, a flood of new details (as well as screenshots and in-game footage) have emerged to assure us that the motion-controlled Sorcery is still very much alive and kicking.
The time you’ve been waiting for has come, Assassins of Constantinople.
The legendary master Assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze has arrived in your fair city and work has already begun to free the land from the tyrannical, gluttonous grip of those who would claim it for themselves.
But Ezio will need your help if we are to emerge victorious and drive this brutish threat out of the city’s walls for good. As always, however, Ezio has a plan…
Bethesda Softworks’ latest, enormous (massive, gigantic, colossal, gargantuan, mammoth) action RPG is out today around the world, across Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
We’re talking about The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and to celebrate the release of this monumental achievement in games, we’re going to take you on a journey with a collection of gameplay videos, recently released trailers and developer diaries - by the end of it, you’ll know as much about Skyrim as you’ll ever need to… before you get to play it, that is!
Join us in this magnificent quest for Skyrim knowledge, won’t you?
As revealed in the second part of a video developer diary for Bioshock Infinite, it’s incredibly difficult being a voice actor (or any actor, really) when you’re required to change and intensify moods and emotions on-the-fly to get the perfect performance.
Sometimes, you need a little… ‘encouragement’ from your colleagues to help you reach a particularly difficult emotion, which can result in a few tense moments.
Last month, IO Interactive and publisher Square Enix released a whopping seventeen minutes of in-game footage and gameplay from the developer/publisher pair’s upcoming stealth action title, Hitman: Absolution, showcasing just some of the delectable sights and sounds we can expect in the game.
Now, today, IO has released that same trailer only this time with director-style commentary by two of the top talents currently working to bring the next intense adventures of Agent 47 to the world.
In the first part of a brand new developer diary series featuring Irrational’s Bioshock Infinite, the voice actors of the game (who play protagonists Booker and Elizabeth) speak about their roles and what they enjoy about ‘inhabiting’ their characters, both of whom are on a literal and metaphorical journey of discovery in the incredible (and incredibly hostile) city in the sky, Columbia.
The Call of Duty series is well-known for popularising the ability to level and rank up your player in the context of a multiplayer first-person shooter in an effort to unlock new abilities and make yourself a more effective fighting machine.
In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, this levelling system has been extended to the weapons of the game, too.
Anyone looking for one final experience points push in Call of Duty: Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2 before the arrival of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will need to be online at the end of the week, as Activision and Treyarch will be holding another Double XP Weekend!
One of the most anticipated blockbuster games of the year released this week around the world from Rocksteady Studios, the creator’s of 2009’s incredible Batman: Arkham Asylum, and in Batman: Arkham City, players will explore an amazingly detailed open-world while once again matching wits and resolve with The Batman’s arch-nemesis, The Joker.
A new villain, Hugo Strange, has also arrived on the scene as the steward of ‘Arkham City,’ a prison district sectioned off from Gotham that currently houses some of the most vile and dastardly ne’er-do-wells ever seen.
Naturally, there are foul goings-on in the massive metropolis and as T. Batman, players will be tasked with getting to the bottom of the trouble while meeting a huge cast of fan-favourite characters, all while gliding around the city and beating up a mountain of goons.
From what we’ve seen of Batman: Arkham City so far, its place on many a ‘Game of the Year’ list (and even ‘favourite game of all time’ lists) is assured, so Lisa and I jumped at the opportunity to speak with lead narrative designer at Rocksteady, Paul Crocker, about his work on the title, the challenges of writing for an open-world game, the value of collaboration, and more.
Developers at Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games have just released a trailer for the studios’ upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 featuring looks at the game’s many and varied ‘Strike Packages.’
With Modern Warfare 3, there are now three different approaches to helping players improve their skills and imbue themselves with special abilities, which the development teams hope will encourage a wider range of gamers to try the multiplayer, rather than reserve high level play to the hardest of the hardcore Call of Duty experts.
The Assassin’s Creed series has exploded since the release of the first game in 2007, and as it continued to sell millions of copies over subsequent game releases through to the end of 2010 across all platforms, the franchise has outgrown its digital interactive form and spawned comic books, novels, a series of live action short story videos, an upcoming animated short film and an extensive encyclopaedia.
Ahead of the release of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations and the Assassin’s Creed: Embers animated film on November 15th, we got to speak to ‘transmedia development director’ at Ubisoft, Julien Cuny, where we found out about the creation of the Assassin’s Creed Encyclopaedia as well as the quality control in place to govern Ubisoft’s ‘transmedia’ approach to the franchise, all while discovering the secrets of Ezio’s final adventure.
