Over the course of Capcom’s Captivate 2011 event to announce and showcase the publisher’s upcoming titles, something called Dead Rising 2: Off the Record was revealed, and rather than continuing the string of downloadable episodes related to Dead Rising 2, this new title is a full release.

And get this: Dead Rising 2: Off the Record stars original Dead Rising protagonist, Frank West, and replaces Dead Rising 2’s hero, Chuck Greene, in a retelling of the sequel’s story.

The NPD Group has released its sales report of the videogame industry in the US for the month of September, sadly the first of its kind to not include exact unit sales.

NPD no longer reports the unit sales figures for the Top 5, neither does the Top 10 show a single title on a single platform but rather the combined sales of an individual title across all platforms.

When the going gets tough, the tough rough up the zombies while the greedy cash in. At least, that’s how post-zombie-apocalypse America has learnt to cope with the aftermath of the Willamette outbreak five years earlier. Terror Is Reality (a Gladiators-like game show where gladiators compete to wreak the most havoc against captive zombies in a variety of gory ways) is the country’s response to the terrifying realisation that they’re slowly losing the fight against the unrelenting zombie apocalypse.

In Dead Rising 2, Terror Is Reality XVII: PAYBACK (TIR) is being hosted in Fortune City - seemingly the last surviving stronghold of good ol’ American excess: an amusement resort located somewhere in Nevada and modeled after pre-apocalypse Las Vegas. Our protagonist, Chuck Greene, a former motorcross champion, competes in TIR in a bid to win money to afford the life-preserving drug Zombrex for his daughter, Katey. Katey was bitten by her own zombified mother in the previous outbreak, and Zombrex is the medical marvel that staves off the onset of zombie infection in individuals that have been bitten.

One of the biggest releases of last week (in Europe and the UK) and this week (in the US) was Capcom’s Dead Rising 2, a harrowing zombie destruction simulator that puts you in the shoes of Chuck Greene, a fellow who is currently tasked with surviving the hostile advances of tens of thousands of zombies in a gambling paradise.

Luckily, Greene has a few… ‘tools’ at his disposal to take care of the zombie menace. ‘Tools’ like a hand-crafted, double-sided chainsaw pole, plus hundreds more.
