Sony Online Entertainment has just released a new holiday-themed event called ‘Season’s Greedings’ for their massively multiplayer online game, DC Universe Online.
Note: No, that’s not a spelling mistake, it really is called that. Carry on reading to find out why.
DC Universe Online, the massively multiplayer online game from Sony Online Entertainment, is now Free-to-Play for both the PS3 and PC. That’s right folks, you can download DC Universe Online from the PlayStation Store for free and play it for free, no monthly fee is required!
In the wake of the still on-going PlayStation Network saga in which Sony Computer Entertainment’s online service has been taken down and personal user account information compromised, Sony has had to recently announce more bad news for those of you enjoying (or trying to enjoy) the range of games and services offered by Sony Online Entertainment (SOE).
Not only is it possible that nearly 25 million user accounts have been compromised on SOE’s service due to malicious attacks by cyber criminals, the company has announced that the entire service has also been taken offline in light of this new information.
Here’s what SOE had to say to its customers regarding the temporary service downtime and information theft:

“Yesterday, we addressed a number of your questions relating to the malicious intrusion into our network,” began a new information update post on the official PlayStation Blog – one of many updates the team at Sony Computer Entertainment has been releasing in an effort to keep users informed about the on-going PlayStation Network outage.
“As we get closer to restoration of service,” the post continues, “here are more answers to your questions, many of which are more gaming related:”
Sony Online Entertainment recently detailed the next set of content you can expect to show up in DC Universe Online the next time you log in – in fact, it’s already available so a few of you may have already been asked to download (another) patch!
Following rumours and reports across the internet recently, Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) has confirmed the closure of its development studios in Denver, Seattle and Tucson.
As a result, 205 employment positions at SOE have been made redundant while the long-in-development massively multiplayer online action game The Agency has been cancelled in order to “focus development resources on delivering two new MMOs based on its renowned PlanetSide and EverQuest properties, while also maintaining its current portfolio of online games.”
DC Universe Online recently received a massive update for both PC and PlayStation 3 players of the massively multiplayer online action game, bringing the title up to version 1.06.
Alluded to by DC Universe Online’s Jens Anderson at the PlayStation Experience event in London a few weeks ago, the patch (weighing in at 122MB), combined with an enormous update (weighing in at 2.2 GB), will net you an amazing array of new features, events, content and activities – a hefty list of which follows below:
In the wake of the El33tonline-attended PlayStation Experience event in London last week, new information has emerged regarding future themed content coming soon to DC Universe Online, while it was also revealed that new servers will soon be added to support players.

Until March 1st this year, you’ll be able to save over 25 percent off of the regular price of a 90-day subscription for DC Universe Online, and if you continue to be actively subscribed to the game, you’ll be able to keep the promotional rate! Sounds pretty dang good!

If anyone was counting on Call of Duty: Black Ops to sink down Chart Track’s UK Software Sales listing over the coming weeks, they had better give the situation a rethink because Activision and Treyarch’s blockbuster action game has once again claimed the No. 1 spot on the chart, despite a 35% drop in sales.
This dominating performance knocks last week’s chart topper, FIFA 11 (sales down 52%), down to No. 2, as Just Dance 2 (sales down 44%) shifts down one place to No. 3. Wii Fit Plus (sales down 15%)steps up to No. 4 from No. 5 last week, while Kinect Sports (sales down 21%) zooms up to No. 5 from No. 10.
Are there really so few games releasing this week? I guess it’s understandable, but it is a little depressing to see such an emaciated list of titles… with one exception!
DC Universe Online is available today in the UK and South Africa, and went on sale earlier this week in Europe (the lucky punks), for both the PlayStation 3 and PC.
It’s the beginning of a new year, and as expected, there aren’t all that many new videogame releases this week, although there is at least one standout title that’s set to launch around the world over the next seven days… and it’s a big one!
DC Universe Online will finally become available for PlayStation 3 and PC gamers eager to dive headfirst into a huge and incredible online world, filled with their favourite DC superheroes and supervillains!
If you’ve had but a glance at El33tonline’s previous coverage of DC Universe Online, you’ll be hard-pressed not to be at least a little bit excited about this massively multiplayer online action RPG.
