Just in case you need reminding, the sixth DBNGamers meet-up will take place at 2pm this Saturday, May 26th, at Pizzetta Pizzeria in Glenwood. We’re hoping to see some new faces at the event, so if you’re a DBNGamers regular then be sure to bring a couple of friends or relatives along to experience the great atmosphere that always seems to permeate our gatherings.

If you’ve been keeping tabs on El33tonline during the past few months you’re likely to have read about how much fun we’ve been having at the monthly DBNGamers meet-ups. Each event has been memorable in its own right and every time we get together new friendships are forged and humourous stories exchanged.

With this month’s DBNGamers being the fifth meet-up since the inaugural event in December, it was only fitting that we had a Star Wars theme to commemorate one of the most successful films of all-time - Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back. Of course, we were also paying tribute to the recently released Kinect Star Wars which was destined to cause quite a stir at DBNGamers V.

“Force throw!”

The latest meet-up for the gaming enthusiasts of Durban ran from 2pm on Saturday, April 21st at the Pizzetta Pizzeria in Glenwood. This venue has been used for two previous DBNGamers events and it once again provided a cosy backdrop for engaging in ardent conversation with members of Durban’s gaming community.

It’s that time of the week when we breathe a sigh of relief and take some time out to relax, spend time with friends and family, and put our feet up with a controller in our hands.

Here’s what we’ll be up to this weekend, what will you be doing?

DBNGamers IV - Who's Who Image 1

Those of us who made it to the fourth gathering of Durban gamers on March 16th (more casually known as ‘last Friday night’) can all agree that it was a great time.

Food, drink and new friends combined with exciting new games, dancing fun, hands-on time with the PS Vita and loads of prizes all added up to what we would call a successful, highly enjoyable event!

But who was all there?

All told, a little under 60 people were at DBNGamers IV and we’ve included their names below with even more photos from the event. If you provided your Twitter profile, we’ve included it in the hopes that others will follow you so we can grow the Durban community of gamers, but if you would prefer to remain anonymous we’ll remove it:

Before the beginning of 2011, South African PC and videogame distributor Apex Interactive was largely responsible for the country’s supply of casual, adventure, repackaged and budget titles at retail, but with the release of Rugby World Cup 2011, Zumba and Dead Island, however, the company has shot to prominence and holds distribution partnerships with international publishers that can boast world-class game line-ups over the next few months, and into the future.

The DBNGamers IV gaming event this past Friday evening was tremendous fun for the simple fact that it gave us a chance to meet local like-minded people and share discussions with individuals who treat our hobby as seriously as we do.

It’s not often you meet perfect strangers and are able to immediately jump into a matched, passionate debate over the merits of expensive downloadable content, after all.

Events such as DBNGamers IV are also perfect opportunities for like-minded individuals to snag some swag and prizes, which is exactly what a number of gamers managed to do last Friday!

The monthly gathering of Durban gamers has grown from humble beginnings, it must be said.

The first get-together in December was very casual and played host to seven Durbanites, while the second meeting enjoyed an attendance in the double figures. DBNGamers 3.0 was about consolidation, and a little over 20 gaming and geek culture enthusiasts gathered to chat over pizza and drinks, keeping it ‘Durban style’ – laid back and chilled to the max.

Last Friday night, however, the fourth meeting of Durban gamers took place at Waxy’s Restaurant in Westville and by the end of the evening, DBNGamers IV boasted attendance figures nearing 60.

Explosive!

DBNGamers IV was held at Waxy’s in Westville on Friday evening and was the biggest and most awesome get together we’ve had so far. It was great to see so many fellow gamers enjoying the evening’s entertainment as well as each other’s company, and it was personally satisfying for me to see a number of familiar faces including my sister-in-law, old school friends and even a BT Games’ employee who’s helped me out on many occasions at the Pavilion branch.

El33tonline Question of the Day

This Question of the Day is a bit of a cop-out, we agree, but… it’s the DBNGamers IV gaming event tonight in Durban!

We’re going to ask you to help spread the word of the gathering on Twitter and Facebook, if you please, and we’ve tried to make it very easy for you to do so:

Maybe we’re getting a little too clingy, but we’re simply excited to share all of the cool activities and goodies we have planned for all of the Durban Gamers tomorrow!

As El33tonline sat down to plan our events and activities for 2012, our mantra for the year became clear: Go big or go home.

We handily demonstrated this motto with our tour of South Africa’s gaming events in January, and while our future exciting plans for 2012 will need to remain locked up and secret for now, this week’s gaming event in Durban, DBNGamers IV, will once again be an opportunity for El33tonline to demonstrate our commitment to the local gaming community.

This time, however, we’re going to go big and stay home in Durban!
