Today, something quite disturbing arrived at my door. Something creepy… and even a little scary. At first, I couldn’t look past the dashes of bloody fingerprints and streaks of crimson gore smeared on it, but after a cursory glance my interest was well and truly piqued.

I couldn’t stop examining it and flicking through its contents, trying to put together the clues – if they even were clues – to get to the bottom of its mystery.

Today, I received a family photo album, and it’s horrific. And entirely awesome.

So here we are again with news of a FEAR 3 delay.

FEAR 3 Logo

FEAR 3 from Warner Bros. Interactive and Day 1 Studios was originally due for release at the end of 2010, but was subsequently delayed into ‘early 2011.’ This was followed up with an official release date window… and then another delay with a new release date of May 27th in Europe.

Now, we’ve learned that FEAR 3 will in fact only arrive on retail shelves at the tail-end of June around the world…

The story of FEAR is surprisingly complicated, what with prototypical soldiers, a ghastly ‘mother’ figure, sibling rivalry, psychic connections and hellish visions – and that’s all before a single shot is fired in an attempt to destroy super soldiers, demons and other monstrosities in stylish slow-motion combat.

Luckily, the folks over at Warner Bros. Interactive and Day 1 Studios have released a handy video to summarise the story of FEAR, and consequently FEAR 3, as the demonic Paxton Fettel narrates the tale of his brother, his mother… and blood:

Warner Bros. Entertainment has released a new cinematic trailer for FEAR 3, and it’s sure to raise at least a few hairs on the back of your neck.

The new trailer was released yesterday to celebrate the Ides of March, the day on which Julius Caesar was betrayed and murdered by his closest friends. It shows an in-game cinematic where brothers Paxton Fettel and Point Man recount their violent and hostile past, giving readers a little insight into the game as the “two are haunted by themes of betrayal and family ties as the game progresses.”

From a Warner Bros. Entertainment press release:

“For Valentine’s Day, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced that Paxton Fettel is available as a playable character in the single player campaign and will be unlocked at the end of each level after first playing through a level as Point Man.”

For… Valentine’s Day? You want to tell people on Valentine’s Day that you’ll be able to play as a psychopathic, demonic monster who is able to destroy his enemies with a mere thought?

Well, while you’re doing that, Warner, we’ll be over here enjoying (READ: Grimacing At) a new set of FEAR 3 screenshots containing overdoses of crimson explosions, while watching a ghastly (READ: Tasty) new trailer revealing some of Fettel’s horrible (READ: Awesome) powers:

After looking over the most recent batch of screenshots for FEAR 3, there’s no doubt about it: Developer Day 1 Studios will be desperately trying to give us all terrible nightmares as we shoot our way through the team’s co-op action game this year.

Corpses hanging from meat hooks, dark and eerie passageways, blank stares from a bloodied Alma… yeah, you’ll get some nasty dreams from this one.

If you think you’re up to the task, you can flip through the latest screenshots for FEAR 3 below, as well as watch an interesting developer diary discussing how the team aims to provide ‘divergent cooperative play,’ and extreme replayability as a result:

Well, it looks as though the nightmarish gameplay experience that Day 1 Studios is aiming to inject into its next game has manifested itself in the real world in the form of development hell, as the team’s FEAR 3 has once again been delayed, this time by two months.

Day 1 Studios’ ghastly first-person shooter, FEAR 3, recently got a concrete release date of March 22nd for the US, while a UK date has since been confirmed by Eurogamer – March 25th is when gamers in the British isles will be able to take on the role of either Pointman or Paxton Fettel in this co-operative, horror-themed action game.

It is a pity though that FEAR 3 didn’t make Halloween this year, but no matter – the team at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Day 1 have released an especially horrific, spooky trailer for the game to get us in the mood, and remind us that FEAR is coming…

Watch below, but remember that there’s a reason I used the word ‘horrific’:

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Day One Studios’ horror-themed first-person shooter FEAR 3 was recently delayed into 2011 after it was originally meant to launch near the end of this year.

While no specific reason for given for the delay, we needn’t worry ourselves with such things anymore as the game has received a North American release date of late March, while a host of pre-order incentives across a range of retailers have also been announced.

[Update] Added a batch of new, horrific FEAR 3 screenshots below. [End of Update]

FEAR 3 was first revealed in a series of… unfortunate live-action trailers with snippets of gameplay included to help us envisage what we can expect from the game when it releases later this year on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

FEAR 3 Logo

Finally though, now that E3 2010 has come and gone, Warner Bros. Interactive and Day 1 Studios have managed to flood us with a good amount of in-game footage from FEAR 3, revealing some atmospheric, strategic and all-out action-packed sections of the game with its unique 2-player cooperative mode.

Mech action is included in the videos, naturally:

I’ve given Warner Bros. Interactive a hard time for their previous FEAR 3 trailers because of the company’s insistence on employing live-action footage to deliver the message that their next horror-imbued shooter was on the horizon.

Thankfully, this latest trailer for FEAR 3 employs neither live-action footage, nor hair-raisingly bad quotes (well, not that bad), and simply shows off some gameplay footage and cool slow-motion rotation shots:

So it looks as though Warner Bros. Interactive is going to continue with the whole live-action shtick as far as the trailers for this year’s FEAR 3 are concerned, and while I’m personally quite opposed to the idea, at least they’re a little fun to watch, and leave us with such amazing quips as:

“When it comes to death, it’s better to give than receive.”

Gobsmacking.
