More delay news today, this time concerning Crystal Dynamics’ upcoming Tomb Raider reboot.
Speaking on the official Eidos forums, Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics Darrell Gallagher announced news of Tomb Raider’s delay from late 2012 into 2013, citing the developer’s reasons for doing so:
Those of us looking forward to a 2012 release for the next Tomb Raider game from Crystal Dynamics can all breathe a sigh of relief as the developer has revealed that the project has reached an ‘Alpha’ state, putting it on track for launch this year.
It’s no secret that I am a Tomb Raider fan. I have watched as the series grew in popularity over the years, been dismayed when it began to crumble a little over the past few years, excited when The Guardian of Light bore testament to a reawakening of the might of Lara Croft, and amazed when the new re-imagined Tomb Raider was revealed.
Crystal Dynamics has released a batch of new screenshots for Tomb Raider, the reboot to the series that’s scheduled to be released in Fall 2012.
These new screenshots show Lara Croft abandoned and afraid on an island as she “begins her gritty adventure of self discovery.” The game tells “the story of a young and inexperienced Lara Croft who finds out just how far she must go in order to stay alive.”
Update Added new screenshots below. End of Update
Microsoft has just wrapped up their E3 press conference, a keynote that showcased blockbuster titles and innovative new features coming to the Xbox 360 soon.
Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have just released the debut trailer for Tomb Raider, and it certainly does a good job of getting your blood pumping.
Crystal Dynamics has announced that it will be releasing the first CG trailer for Tomb Raider on the 3rd of June.
Entitled ‘Turning Point,’ the debut trailer will be made available at tombraider.com at 7am GMT on the 3rd of June.
But we’ll all be able to enjoy a teaser of the trailer when the Tomb Raider Facebook page hits 100 000 likes, so get to work El33t Peeps!
Following news of a new Resident Evil movie, word doing the rounds today is that a new Tomb Raider film is currently in the works after production company GK Films recently acquired the movie rights to the classic videogame franchise.
While this new movie will miss the release of the next game in the series, there is talk that the big screen adaptation of Tomb Raider will follow a similar route to Crystal Dynamics’ title which aims to act as an origin story (or ‘reboot’) of sorts.
Earlier this year Crystal Dynamics took the wraps off of ‘The Tomb Raider Trilogy,’ a compilation of past Tomb Raider games on one Blu-ray disc for PlayStation 3.
When the trilogy pack goes on sale later this month, you’ll be able to get your hands on remastered versions of Tomb Raider Legend and Tomb Raider Anniversary (i.e. high definition art assets used to improve the visuals), as well as Tomb Raider Underworld (which was previously release for PS3) – all in one collection!
To showcase the huge difference in visual fidelity between the original ‘Legend’ and ‘Anniversary’ games on PlayStation 2 compared to the remastered versions on PlayStation 3, Crystal Dynamics has released a few comparison images with both versions side-by-side:
The first ever screenshots and art for Crystal Dynamics’ next Tomb Raider game, ‘Tomb Raider,’ have finally been unleashed unto the public, and now we can all enjoy them together without fear of a legal representative telling us to close our eyes and wait for the goods.
Those jerks.
As for Tomb Raider itself? If the images included below are actual in-game screenshots, then it’s looking pretty dang awesome, and you should definitely look forward to Lara Croft’s ‘debut’ adventures, due for release later this year.
Have a look at those screenshots and additional art from Tomb Raider below:
Tomb Raider franchise stewards Crystal Dynamics recently announced the existence of The Tomb Raider Trilogy Pack, a collection of remastered Tomb Raider games that will become available exclusively for the PlayStation 3 at the end of March this year.
Comprising high-definition quality renditions of Tomb Raider Legend and Tomb Raider Anniversary, as well as the most recent Lara Croft adventure, Tomb Raider Underworld, The Tomb Raider Trilogy Pack will also include a specially-created PS3 theme, an official Lara Croft female Home avatar outfit, the Viking Thrall male Home avatar outfit, and a collection of high-definition ‘making of’ trailers featuring behind-the-scenes looks at development of games from the entire Tomb Raider series.
Square Enix has just announced the existence of a brand new Tomb Raider game, currently in development at franchise stewards Crystal Dynamics.
The new Tomb Raider title, previously rumoured to be a reboot of the series, finds franchise-long hero Lara Croft embarking on her very first adventure after a storm destroys the boat she was travelling on, and leaves her stranded on an unknown beach in an unknown part of the world.
Much unlike the Lara Croft we know now, this new adventure will see her as a “frightened young woman,” left on her own to survive in a brutal new world against unknown challenges… and enemies:
Xbox 360 gamers got ‘the patch.’ PlayStation 3 gamers even got ‘the patch.’ Now, PC gamers are able to get ‘the patch.’
What ‘patch’?
Why, only an update to Crystal Dynamics’ excellent Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, which adds the option to fight, puzzle and navigate your way through the adventure with a friend… online!
A few other updates to the game were also made with patch 1.01, with a list provided:
Now, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is an excellent game filled with its fair share of adventure, set-piece action sequences, and plenty of gunplay, but when the game was first released on Xbox 360, and subsequently PlayStation 3 and PC, a key element was missing: Online cooperative gameplay!
Sure, you could play co-op with a buddy sitting right beside you in the physical realm, but the virtual realm? No dice.
Thankfully, at the end of last month, an online cooperative patch was released for the Xbox 360 version of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light.
Now, it’s the PlayStation 3’s turn.
Have you been patiently waiting for Crystal Dynamics to release the promised online cooperative patch for the developer’s awesome Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light?
Well wait no longer, because Xbox 360 gamers are now able to head onto the ‘ole Xbox LIVE Marketplace to grab the patch and get playing with friends online now!
