It’s not everyday that a developer will outright admit one version of their game runs better than the other, and it’s certainly not everyday that a developer is able to admit that the PlayStation 3 version of their game runs better than its Xbox 360 counterpart, but that’s exactly what’s happened with Crysis 2.
Speaking about the difficulties some developers face when creating titles for the PS3 versus other platforms, Crytek’s director of business Carl Jones commented:
OK, so the video may be a little overexposed owing to the fact that it was taken by a camera off of a screen (hence, off-screen), but if you watch the below-appearing technology trailer for Crytek’s CryEngine 3 (which will power the studio’s Crysis 2 appearing at the end of the year) and don’t come away impressed… then you’re probably from the future.
CryEngine 3 currently contains enough technological and visual wizardry to make even John Carmack and Tim Sweeney jealous (… nerd joke), with fancy lighting effects, procedural deformation, procedural destruction, blend shading and some extremely advanced artificial intelligence routines, all wrapped up in what looks to be a very smart editor.
Watch all of that in action below:
A while ago it was announced that Crytek would showcase their CryEngine 3 technology at GDC, and to reveal their first engine that would be Xbox 360, PS3 and the PC compatible.
Well, Crytek have certainly kept their word, as the following trailer displays a series of tech demo environments to show off their amazing graphics technologies running on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
