Electronic Arts Logo “The decisions to retire older EA games are never easy,” EA’s open letter to its customers begins.

The publisher is about to reveal a new list of games that will have their online servers shut down later this year, which means we won’t be able to play their multiplayer offerings or enjoy their online features.

“The development teams and operational staff pour their hearts into these games almost as much as the customers playing them and it is hard to see one retired,” EA continues.

It’s true. Members of El33tonline have spoken to developers from around the world, and from EA in particular, and if there’s one thing that rings true it’s that these people are incredibly passionate about the games they work on.

After months of not fully appreciating what EA and Bright Light’s ‘Create’ is, and now actually getting to play the game and see for myself, I finally understand what this ‘creativity enabling’ and ‘imagination unlocking’ title is all about… but now I have one final question.

Who is Create for?

Before we try and answer such a heavy question, let’s start at the very beginning, which I hear is a very good place to start.

I still don’t really ‘get’ EA’s upcoming ‘creativity-enabling’ game, Create.

Sure, we’ve seen screenshots and a trailer with vague explanations, and El33tonline even got an exclusive interview with Create’s producer, Justin Manning. I even looked over someone’s shoulder as the game was being demonstrated during gamescom 2010, but there’s just something I don’t understand.

As far as I can tell, Create can be summed up as ‘Incredible Machine for 2010.’ But then you need to know what ‘Incredible Machine’ is, which is a problem.

EA has just taken the wraps off of a game called Create, a title the publisher says is “powered by imagination” and “rewards players for being creative.”

Releasing this November on the Wii, PlayStation 3 (featuring PlayStation Move support), Xbox 360, PC and MAC, Create is a game for the whole family, and “presents imaginative gameplay challenges where the solutions are fuelled by the creativity of the player.”
