While it may not look the best, and have an underwhelming name and setting, new first-person shooter from developers No Way, entitled C.O.R.E., appears surprisingly solid in the shooting department, with beefy sounds and strong onscreen actions adding to the feedback. From the blurb:

C.O.R.E. Box Art“C.O.R.E.… is set in A.D. 2028 when a massive meteor slammed into California’s Mojave Desert. Leading scientists were quickly dispatched to examine the extraterrestrial radiation that was transforming the environment and all life in the area.

“For twenty years many experiments were carried out at C.O.R.E., the top-secret underground facility built on the site… that is until the day when all communications with the lab abruptly ceased.”

Naturally, as the player you’re sent in to uncover the mystery.

The game recently released on the Nintendo DS in North America for $29.99, while a release date for the rest of the world is unknown at this time. You can watch a gameplay video for C.O.R.E., which actually looks pretty fun, below:

During Core Gaming Systems’ Wii Sports Resort launch event last week, a presentation by Matthew Grose, General Manager of the group, revealed just how successful sales of Nintendo’s consoles and software in South Africa have been since Core Gaming began handling the distribution of Nintendo’s products in the country, and launched the Nintendo Wii in October of 2007.

Comparing sales figures from the first 18 months of the Wii’s availability in the country to those of the Xbox 360 and PS3, it appears as though the Wii is far ahead during the consoles’ respective 18 month launch windows.
