EL33TONLINE: News tag archive: conceptart

The epic and beautiful world of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim must have needed appropriately epic and beautiful concept art to guide the art direction of the game as it was being created, and newly unveiled artwork does nothing to dissuade us from this assumption - the artwork is incredible!

It’s unusual to learn more about an upcoming AAA game through the medium of Facebook, but then again Dark Souls is not a run-of-the-mill release.

In the latest album posted on the official Dark Souls Facebook page, the developers have been kind enough to offer a few sentences of explanation for each image. Some of these phrases offer up new information about the game that will undoubtedly have Demon’s Souls fans frothing at the mouth with excitement.

Dark Souls Concept Art SmallConcept art is an interesting avenue to gain insight into a director’s vision for a project. I’m one of those people who loves poring over the concept art and behind-the-scenes footage of a title, usually when I’ve unlocked it in the game itself. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and God of War III are some of the best examples of this type of goodness I’ve yet encountered.

Sometimes the game ends up looking not nearly as cool as its concept art, and then there’s those rare titles which take the concept art and apply all kinds of amazing to it until there’s a living, breathing landscape/character/enemy inhabiting your TV. It’s incredible to think of how many talented people must be involved in turning a conceptual drawing into a 3D object or environment, which possesses realistic colours, textures, animations, physics and effects.

Tomb Raider Art 1 SmallThe first ever screenshots and art for Crystal Dynamics’ next Tomb Raider game, ‘Tomb Raider,’ have finally been unleashed unto the public, and now we can all enjoy them together without fear of a legal representative telling us to close our eyes and wait for the goods.

Those jerks.

As for Tomb Raider itself? If the images included below are actual in-game screenshots, then it’s looking pretty dang awesome, and you should definitely look forward to Lara Croft’s ‘debut’ adventures, due for release later this year.

Have a look at those screenshots and additional art from Tomb Raider below:

Hybrid Banner Logo

Have you heard about 5th Cell’s new game, a third-person action shooter called Hybrid?

In a bit of a departure from the developer’s previous games such as Scribblenauts, Super Scribblenauts, Drawn to Life, and other light-hearted titles, 5th Cell’s Hybrid is a “pioneering third person shooter” for Xbox LIVE Arcade set in a “devastated post apocalyptic world,” and promises to deliver “a completely new gameplay experience never seen before in the genre.”

Project Draco Logo

What’s with these ‘Project’ game announcements at Tokyo Game Show this year? Project Dark? Project Draco? Only two, but still… no more ‘Project’ games, you hear game developers?!

OK, Project Draco. This game allows you to fly dragons, much like Lair for the PS3, or the excellent ‘Drakan’ for PC years ago, only this time you’ll control them using the Xbox 360’s motion-sensing device, Kinect.

Marvel VS Capcom 3 Logo

Yesterday saw the introduction of four new characters to the Marvel VS Capcom 3 fighting roster in the form of Chun Li, Trish, Doctor Doom and Super-Skrull, but according to the official Marvel.com website, two more characters are waiting in the wings, ready and willing to be formally introduced to the gaming masses.

One of these characters wields an enormously powerful hammer, while the other character can’t ‘wield’ anything at all, at least with its ‘hands’ - no opposable thumbs, the poor dear.

Which Marvel and Capcom characters am I referring to?

Capcom sure is taking its sweet time revealing the identities of Marvel VS Capcom 3’s full fighter roster, but with every reveal, we get to find out who exactly will be appearing in that big ‘ole character selection screen when the fighting game releases next year.

Also, you’ve got to admit it’s at least a little bit more exciting to discover the character roster piecemeal rather than in one huge information dump, since this way we get to see (and properly absorb) all kinds of new screenshots, artwork and trailers featuring the new additions.

So, who’s been added to that list?

PixelJunk Shooter 2 Logo

Q-Games’s Dylan Cuthbert has formally announced the existence of PixelJunk Shooter 2 on the US PlayStation Blog, following a reveal in Official PlayStation Magazine and hints and rumours earlier this year.

According to Cuthbert, work on the sequel to last year’s awesome exploration-based puzzle shooter is “in full production, full steam ahead, anchors away and all that,” and while he can’t say much about the game at the moment, PixelJunk Shooter 2 “will have some features that are new to the PixelJunk series in general and will be bigger than the first game!”
