Ah, Gears of War Wednesday. The one day of the week that we can all agree to hop onto Xbox LIVE for an hour (or four) starting at 20:00 and crack each other’s skulls in brutal, ruthless rounds of Gears of War 3!
We’re keeping it business casual this week. How does that work?
There have been some incredible videogame titles in the history of the medium - names that conjure up amazing scenes in your mind or perfectly sum up the tone of that game. Names like: Shadow of the Colossus. Sins of a Solar Empire. DOOM.
Then again, there have been some terrible, unwieldy game names that do nothing to help their cause. Names like: F.E.A.R. Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together. Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman: What Did I Do to Deserve This?
Which leads us to our Question of the Day:
Has a game’s name ever discouraged you, or made you more interested?
Here in South Africa rugby is not only our national sport but it’s our green-blooded heritage. Anyone who’s anyone claiming to be South African must have some connection to rugby.
Whether you play it, watch it, or just know someone else that does, rugby and South Africa are as synonymous as boerewors and a braai. Face it, you just can’t get away from rugby around these parts.
Friday marks the granddaddy of gaming evenings for the week - yes I’m talking about Battlefield Friday!
Again, you guys amaze me with your skill, talent and knowledge of obscure gaming trivia. I am very proud of you. They grow up so fast.
The news last week was indeed from Asura’s Wrath, although some of your spelling left a lot to be desired. It is the thought that counts, right? Asura’s Wrath releases in March and the bad news was of its delay until then.
This is going to be one crazy epic game!
It’s an age-old question, really, and one that crops up time and again, but it’s one that might just bubble to the surface once more this week.
It’s being reported that Pokémon director Junichi Masuda has teased ‘an announcement’ of some kind this week related to the world-dominating property of collectible pocket monsters with signs pointing towards a reveal of ‘Pokemon Grey’ for 3DS - natural, of course, following the release of Pokemon Black and White.
The Question of the Day is:
Do developers owe innovation to gamers?
The third meeting of DBNGamers this past Saturday once again saw a growth in attendees. After our first ever meeting at the beginning of December 2011 where seven of us huddled around and casually chatted about games and geek stuff, the latest gathering of gamers in Durban grew to 24 people (up again from our second meet-up), with many more waiting in the wings.
You know who you are.
EA and Starbreeze are set to reboot a classic videogame franchise this week with the release of Syndicate, a first-person shooter set in a neo-dystopian world when business is, indeed, war.
While the game features an entirely new singleplayer campaign giving you the chance to take on the guise of a superhuman soldier, it also contains an entire four-player co-operative campaign where you and your buddies and carve through nine missions inspired objective seen in the original Syndicate.
The Question of the Day is:
What about Syndicate has got you excited?
It’s time once again to put a bow on the week and sign off of El33tonline, at least for a little while. It’s been a hectic week and we’re getting a little dozy right about now.
This weekend (and tonight even) is filled with great gaming delights so read on below to see what the team at El33tonline will be up to over the next two days, but don’t hesitate to let us know what you’ll be busy with either:
This week’s Gears of War Wednesday was an education for me and not only because I was continually beat down by superior Gears skills. Again.
No, I learned a lot about the multiplayer component of Gears of War 3 this past Wednesday because I was exposed to all of the competitive game modes for extended periods of time, but in quick succession.
Let me explain.
Following on from the international success of the community-driven Gears of War 3 tournament Hypefestation, DO Gaming is hosting the inaugural DGL Gears of War 3 Cup, and although hosted and sponsored by DO Gaming, the cup is very much a community event, being driven by a very passionate Gears of War ZA community.
Many locals may play the Battlefields and Modern Warfares out there, but deep down inside, those veterans know that Gears is still their game.
It’s Battlefield Friday and you know what that means: Epic hecticness and awesomeness!
Tonight it’s all about teamwork and defending the objective that you just took. Yes I’m talking about Conquest mode. We’re going to shake some things up. Let’s see if I can get my knife kill per minutes below 19 minutes…
February and March have dragged the videogame world kicking and screaming into an exciting 2012 release slate with games of all shapes, sizes and platforms out now and due for release over the next few weeks.
After finishing up The Darkness II recently and looking forward to the upcoming release of Mass Effect 3 (all while indulging in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning), the Question of the Day occurred to us:
Do you prefer shorter or longer games?
DBNGamers 3.0 is just around the corner and there are a lot of reasons to be excited for the meet-up tomorrow afternoon. If you don’t have a reason, then let me give you six to persuade you to be there - this is going to be one that you don’t wanna’ miss!
The release of the Mass Effect 3 demo this past week was without a doubt one of the more exciting events that the videogame world has enjoyed in 2012 so far as fans of BioWare’s epic series and newcomers alike banded together in a frenzy of anticipation.
Before the release of the Mass Effect 3 demo, El33tonline did our part to stoke the flames of excitement by giving away early access to two lucky gamers and also by posting up our hands-on impressions of the singleplayer portion of the taster.
Naturally, we all went wild before the release of the demo and Lisa rounded up some of the more… interesting comments we saw on the site, Facebook and Twitter - read over those below but also be sure to share your thoughts on the Mass Effect 3 demo now that you’ve actually got to play it for yourself:
