Begin with an existing hugely popular franchise: Command and Conquer is known and loved throughout the gaming world for its unique mixture of futuristic RTS game play, three wonderfully unique factions and for its entertaining live action cut scenes. It has also given us one of the most famous bald-headed baddie ever, Kane.

Now with this groundwork and huge fan base firmly in place one would think that making this fourth and final instalment, Command and Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight, would be a cinch and that it would be virtually impossible for this game to be anything but a huge success. Unfortunately the game designers at EA have shown us that if you put your mind to it, nothing is impossible.

EA recently announced the official release dates for the next entry into their long-running real-time strategy series of games, Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight, heading out exclusively to the PC.

“Command & Conquer 4 Tiberian Twilight brings the 15 year-long fan-beloved Tiberium saga to an epic and stunning conclusion,” reads the press release, “and offers players innovative and compelling strategic depth through its new class-based gameplay, mobile bases and experience system throughout all game modes.”

EA also revealed what kinds of goodies you can expect to get if you pre-order Tiberian Twilight, including early access to the upcoming beta programme for the game, as well as the game’s official soundtrack and an exclusive prequel bonus mission. EA has accidentally announced that its Los Angeles studio is working on the development of Command & Conquer 4.

The slip happened via a UK PR for the publisher who twittered “EA Los Angeles announces the development of Command & Conquer 4.”

The post, which linked to a press release that had not yet been posted, has since been removed but you can check out a picture of it at Joystiq.

Still, its bound to make the Command & Conquer fans among us smile.
