It’s time for the weekly European PlayStation Store update, and I’m happy to report that this week is packed full of gaming goodness for all you PS3 players out there!

The store update is led by Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time HD, but there’s also a whole bunch of special offers and DLC including the PS3 excusive Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood Copernicus missions and Comet Crash: Bionic Swarm.

New downloadable content for Comet Crash, the popular tower defense game from indie developers Pelfast, is now available on the PlayStation Network.

Comet Crash: Bionic Swarm will cost you $4.99 and sees the campaign continuing where Comet Crash left off. “Enemy forces have resurrected with improved defenses and advanced technology. To defeat them you will battle your way through 16 action packed levels that span across two new environments.”

A new update for Comet Crash, the popular tower defense game from indie developers Pelfast, is now available on both the US and European PlayStation Network.

The content patch (1.03 update) introduces new levels and maps as well as new battle settings and even a new difficulty mode. The full list of features follows below:

Whoa! There is a ton of new content on the US and European PlayStation Stores this week, with bunches of special offers on classic titles such as Sim City 2000, Populous, Theme Park and Ape Quest on PSP, and add-on game content including, but not limited to, content for Fallout 3, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, Guitar Hero 5 and Rock Band.

The usual assortment of interesting videos and themes also make an appearance this week to bolster what is quite a beefy update.

Comet Crash, the popular tower defense game from indie developers Pelfast, will be invading the European PlayStation Network on the 8th of October. The game was released in North America back in April.

Comet Crash sees players building towers to defend against waves of enemies and unleashing swarms of their own troops to unleash havoc on the enemy. Up to three players can fight through 28 levels in the campaign mode while battle mode enables you to take on up to four friends offline.

Comet Crash is a valuable addition to the PlayStation Network game library and to the Tower Defense genre too. The game draws you in right from the start, challenging you to hone your strategy skills and drawing you in to try levels again and again so that you can progress deeper.

At one stage I found myself clocking in at 45 minutes for one particular level, sweat was dripping off my brow and my fingers had started to feel a bit numb. I was convinced that I would not survive yet another relentless attack of the enemy hordes…and yet I found myself digging deep to outlast the waves of enemies that were released, intent on destroying my base, and emerged victorious.

The concept of the game, like most other Tower Defense games, is simple. Defend your base from waves of enemies with each level having a set amount of lives. Once that number of enemies infiltrates your base, you lose, but Comet Crash introduces something new to the mix which brings a refreshing change to the genre. Not only do you need to defend your base, you also need to attack your enemy! So, in order to win the level you need to get your troops to the enemies’ base and defend your base too.

Tower defense game Comet Crash will be landing on the PlayStation Network today for $9.99.

The game is touted to take “real-time strategy to a new level by blending classical tower defense gameplay with offensive counterattacks and dynamic AI.” Players will be able to choose from a variety of weapons to defend their territory, making use of specialized units to fight off attacks, all the while building up an army to rush the enemy.
