Even though gamers the world over are only just now indulging in the crushing action and emotive story in Gears of War 3 following the game’s global release yesterday, Epic Games creative director Cliff Bleszinski has already confirmed that at least one of the announced downloadable content packs for the title will include an extra slice of story to add to the already immense campaign.
In conjunction with Epic’s appearance at this week’s Comic-Con event in San Diego, the studio has released a developer diary for Gears of War 3 discussing the making of its crushing third-person action game, as developers including Lee Perry and Cliff Bleszinski talk about the game’s story and how the trilogy will wrap up.
As expected, there are also extensive looks at in-game action included in the video - if you’re chomping for the release of Gears of War 3 on September 20th this year, you won’t want to miss what’s in store below:
A few days ago news emerged of an amazing real life replica of the cute and deadly AI-imbued turrets from Valve’s original Portal, created by cinematic animator and apparent prop master Ryan Palser.
The project to create such a replica was meticulous indeed, and Palser has documented the entire process, from start to finish, on his profile page at Flickr with images and text descriptions of every step.
Apparently, only two of these Portal Turret replicas have been made, and Epic Games’ Creative Director Cliff Bleszinski put in an order for one of them…
… and he very recently received it in the mail.
From a Twitter post by Bleszinski:
[Update] Thanks to information provided by El33tonline reader THE DON, we now know what the Gears 3 beta “surprise” is - visit the comments section below to find out straight from the source, and also watch video evidence! [End of Update]
As Twitter followers of Cliff Bleszinski know by now, the creative director at Epic Games is very deft at dropping hints for upcoming announcements related to the developer’s in-development titles, and recently, he tweeted another mysterious clue about the Gears of War 3 multiplayer beta.
From the tweet:
The Gears of War 3 multiplayer beta is all set and read to kick off on April 25th for everyone who pre-orders Epic Games’ next ultimate action game (and April 18th if you own Bulletstorm Epic Edition), and in this just released video documentary the developers behind the title’s multiplayer discuss how this portion of the experience will blow you away.
Watch Epic Games heavy hitters Rod Fergusson, Mike Capps, Lee Perry and, of course, Cliff Bleszinski discuss how much effort has gone into Gears of War 3 multiplayer, with healthy injections of gameplay footage included.
The countdown begins:
As fans of the epic adventure game series Shenmue will know, the series was always meant to be a trilogy, but thanks to an insanely expensive development period and poorer-than-expected sales for the original game and its sequel, the planned third entry was never made.
While this of course meant that the gaming world was deprived of another masterpiece from SEGA and legendary game developer Yu Suzuki, it also meant that the story of Shenmue was never resolved, and may never be resolved.
Can’t get enough of People Can Fly’s insanely action-packed first-person shooter, Bulletstorm?
Well, Epic Games’ Cliff Bleszinski, one of the producers on Bulletstorm, recently went through a gauntlet of interviews to let gamers know more about the multiplayer portion of the game (get further details and in-game footage of that over here), and he doesn’t disappoint!
You can watch two interviews with Bleszinski below as he tries (and succeeds) to convince us about the merits of Bulletstorm’s insane gameplay, while shouting over the noise of a party behind him:
To mark the 10th anniversary of the PlayStation 2 in North America, the US PlayStation Blog went around and asked a few recognised, legendary and celebrated game developers (as well as games press people) to name their top three favourite PlayStation 2 games of all time:
“Word quickly spread,” writes Sid Shuman on the blog, “the project swelled in scope, and the result is what you see here — a definitive list of ‘must-play’ PS2 games by some of the greatest living game developers in the business.”
27 folks made the list, which includes the likes of Warren Spector, Ken Levine, David Jaffe, Tim Schafer and Cliff Bleszinski.
Out of the 27, however, I couldn’t help but notice that there’s only one woman represented in the bunch – Double Fine’s Tasha Harris. Just sayin’ Sony.
You can find the full list of developers and their favourite PS2 games below:
You’ve seen this segment of gameplay from Bulletstorm before, I’m afraid, but what you haven’t… uh, experienced before are the ‘dulcet’ tones of Epic Games creative director Cliff Bleszinski narrating the gameplay, explaining the various abilities, graphical touches and unique ‘Kill With Skill’ techniques.
You can watch (and listen to) that below, but first, what else is going on in the world of Bulletstorm?
Why are the COG soldiers sporting cut-off sleeves in Gears of War 3? Will ‘emersion holes’ make another appearance in the game? And what’s up with Anya showing up on the battlefield in this third iteration of the game?
These are just a few of the questions hardcore Gears of War players will be able to find answers to, as Epic’s Cliff Bleszinski takes queries from game journalists in a two-part video interview you can find below:
It’s being reported that Epic Games developer Cliff Bleszinski made comments to the effect that Japan can’t keep up with the US technically.
Apparently the remarks were made by Bleszinski to Xbox World 360 magazine, and apparently he said “Part of the problem is, technically, Japan just can’t keep up with the US” when asked if Epic Games had plans to expand into Japan, Korea and China in the future.

Following the massive trailer, screenshot and information reveal for Epic Games’ Gears of War 3, the developer has provided an official, set-in-stone release date for the shooter.
April 8th 2011 is when we can expect the third and final instalment of this Gears of War trilogy to drop, and since the reveal on Jimmy Fallon’s show last night (which you can watch below), a few new morsels of information have begun to sneak out…

By now, we are more than aware that Epic Games is working on Gears of War 3, after a bit of a botched announcement schedule and the inevitability of it all.
But what else is Epic working on, and when can we discover more details regarding this new game?
When the studio’s Cliff Bleszinski finally manages to appear on the Late Night With Jimmy Fallon show tonight to unveil what the developer is keeping himself busy with, he’s all set to reveal not one but two games, as he revealed on his Twitter account:
That Cliff Bleszinski has been right in the middle of the videogame news spotlight for the past week for a variety of reasons, but instead of focussing on whether or not Gears of War 3 will indeed see a release in April next year, or thinking about what game the designer will end up revealing on the Late Night With Jimmy Fallon show, why don’t we take a super interesting tour of Epic Games, and see what kind of cool, awesome stuff the studio has lying around its offices:
Even though we’re still waiting for the officially official announcement from Epic, reports regarding Gears of War 3’s gameplay and mission details have already begun to surface, with talk of underwater missions, new additions to gameplay that will change the series’ cover mechanic, and a mech suit.
These details come from Edge Online, so they’re not to be sneezed at, and were provided by a mysterious ‘US publishing source’ – the same source who let the word out that Gears of War 3 would release in April of 2011.
