[Update] Added the first two screenshots released for Dungeon Siege 3 below. [Update]
Just prior to E3 2010, publisher Square Enix announced that a third entry to the cult classic Dungeon Siege RPG series would be making an appearance, only this time developed by Obsidian in collaboration with the original creator, Chris Taylor at Gas Powered Games.
While not a whole lot of information was conveyed regarding what kind of new and improved gameplay we can expect from Dungeon Siege 3, we were treated to a few pieces of concept art, and a teensy bit of backstory.
Now though, we can enjoy a newly released cinematic trailer for the game to step a little deeper into the world of Dungeon Siege 3. Let’s investigate:
A third entry to the classic Dungeon Siege RPG franchise has today been announced by Square Enix, and is currently in development at Obsidian Entertainment, with input from Gas Powered Games’ studio head Chris Taylor, the original developer of the franchise.
Dungeon Siege 3 will be released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC come launch time, featuring an all-new cooperative multiplayer mode and will “seamlessly blend intuitive action gameplay and a robust RPG system in an immersive world where every decision the player makes will result in consequences.”
Impressive.
Chris Taylor commented on the opportunity to work on Dungeon Siege 3 as an advisor:
Gas Powered Games, creators of Dungeon Siege and Supreme Commander, and headed up by game industry force Chris Taylor, today announced ‘Kings and Castles,’ an “epic real-time strategy game” for both the PC and consoles, and the next game the developers are working on.
Kings and Castles, billed as a “one-of-a-kind experience,” will allow players to take control of one of three powerful kings to help them take control of an all new and original fantasy world.
During development of the game, Gas Powered Games and Chris Taylor will be taking gamers “on a great adventure” by letting us go behind-the-scenes with the developers and “watch the game come to life from start to finish.”
