This week’s European PlayStation store update is simply massive, with a stack of new downloadable titles to purchase as well as the usual plethora of add-on content for your favourite games.
Highlights this week include the Battlefield 3 Beta which went live just a couple of hours ago. This 1173 MB download should be well worth it as you take on the rest of the world in the Paris-based ‘Operation Metro’ map. This open beta ends on October 10th.
Child of Eden is a great example of the infinite potential of videogames to take us to places we’ve never been before. Its world successfully merges the abstract and organic to produce a sensory experience like no other, and its electronic soundtrack is pure aural pleasure. This hybrid of rail shooter and interactive music is not a perfect game by any means – it’s light on content, overly simplistic from a gameplay standpoint and can be frustrating. If you’re looking for a unique and memorable game, however, then Child of Eden won’t disappoint.

Setting the RRP (recommended retail price) for a videogame is a delicate art. Price a title too low and people may think its quality is impaired; price it too high and consumers may feel they’re not getting good value for money.
Child of Eden on Xbox 360 is a recent example of a game’s publishers getting the initial RRP wrong.
Despite an aggressive and highly visible marketing campaign for this ‘casual’ title, Child of Eden reportedly only managed to sell 34 000 copies in the US during its first month and entered the UK charts at the lowly position of 25 in its debut week.
The end of the week can only mean one thing here at El33tonline - a brand new edition of El33t’s Pre-W33kend Post!
We’re falling into the depths of Winter here and that always makes for the best gaming weather, which is a good thing, too, because all of us here at El33tonline have tons of gaming to be done!
After bringing a few awesome competitions to a close this week, we introduced a few new ones for you to take part in, but… wait until next week when we’ve got a few new and exciting contests for you to enter - don’t miss them!
That’s next week, though. What’s the team at El33tonline up to this weekend? Find out below and let us know what games you’ll be playing:
Child of Eden was one of the first titles shown for the Xbox 360’s Kinect peripheral at last year’s E3. It’s a strange-looking game but that’s exactly what you’d expect from Tetsuya Mizuguchi - the man behind Rez. Think of it as an experience somewhat akin to Flower, but with the added ability to fire projectiles.
At E3 last year a new game from Tetsuya Mizuguchi (Rez, Lumines) and Ubisoft was announced for Xbox 360’s Kinect, using the device’s controller-free technology to deliver a stand-out, synesthesia-rich experience.
The name of the game? Child of Eden. The gameplay? Kind of uncertain. While we’ve seen trailers and screenshots for Child of Eden before, they’ve more often than not been a bit non-committal as far as actual demonstration is concerned… and usually included bioluminescent whales floating in space.
Ubisoft has announced the existence of Child of Eden, a “multi-sensory shooter” that is currently in development at Q? Entertainment under the direction of renowned game creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi.
Child of Eden promises to “send players diving into a kaleidoscopic matrix of synchronized music and mind-blowing visuals that will usher forth a landmark game experience.” The game will be available for the Xbox 360 and PS3 in Quarter 1 of 2011. It will also be compatible with Kinect for the Xbox 360 which will add an extra dimension to the game with the sensor detecting a player’s body movements.
