The All Formats Top 5 remains the same this week, with Mario Kart Wii at number 1 for a second week and Wii Fit at number 2. Sales of both Nintendo titles are up 12%.
Sega’s Beijing 2008 and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games stick it out at numbers 3 and 4 with Wii Play at number 5.
According to Chart Track, party and mini-games dominate half of the All Formats Top 10. The four largest sales monitoring and reporting firms in the world are to team up to release the most definitive video game sales chart reports available.
Each of the main territories are covered, with NPD covering the US, Chart-Track covering the UK, Enterbrain providing Japanese sales data and GFK providing sales numbers from Europe. The new monthly sales report that will result from this partnership will be called the Top Global Markets Report and will provide a report that is truly representative of worldwide point-of-sale data.
Their first report has been released, revealing the worldwide, cross-platform sales data for the top five selling games this year:
- Grand Theft Auto IV - 6,293,000
- Super Smash Bros: Brawl - 5,433,000
- Mario Kart Wii - 4,697,000
- Wii Fit - 3,604,000
- Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock - 3,475,000
No surprises then, except for the (still not surprising) performance of three Wii-only titles, making it to the top 5.
Nintendo’s Mario Kart Wii climbs two places to top the UK’s All Formats Charts, experiencing a 6% increase in sales this week. According to Chart Track Nintendo has dominated the charts with nine All Formats number 1’s in the past 19 weeks.

Sega’s Beijing 2008 climbs ten places to number 3 (Number 1 on Xbox 360 and PS3 charts) while Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games moves up four spots to number 4, no doubt re-energized by interest in the Olympic Games.
Nintendo’s Wii Play at number 5 means that Sega and Nintendo share the Top 5 this week. Chart Track data shows that Nintendo claim the lead format on eight of the Top 10 games, with six of the 10 exclusive to Wii or DS. Nintendo also boasts 15 DS or Wii games in the Individual Formats Top 20.
Nintendo’s Wii Fit has topped the UK’s All Formats Chart for a fourth week since the popular title launched 14 weeks ago, gaining 13% in sales this week.

Chart Track have released the latest UK game sales charts for the week ending August 2nd and, surprise surprise, Soul Calibur IV, the latest in the Soul Calibur fighting series from Namco, has hit the number one spot in its first week.
It seems it’s proving slightly more popular with the 360 crowd, as 56% of sales were attributed to that console. It’s also apparently the first time since Soul Calibur 2, in 2003, that the series has hit the number one spot.
It looks like Lego Indiana Jones, however, fell from 5th place to 10th place, while Big Beach Sports swapped places with it, moving up from 10 to 5th this week. Otherwise, the chart remains mostly unchanged with some downwards movement to make way for Soul Calibur. The top-ten chart is as follows:
- 01 - Soul Calibur IV
- 02 - Wii Fit
- 03 - Mario Kart Wii
- 04 - Wall-E
- 05 - Big Beach Sports
- 06 - Guitar Hero: On Tour
- 07 - Wii Play
- 08 - Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games
- 09 - Brain Training
- 10 - Lego Indiana Jones
