The latest entry in the Call of Juarez franchise, The Cartel, is a sequel in name only, and feels like two steps back for the series. First of all, it is not set in the Wild West - the biggest draw card for the original. Secondly, it has none of the charm and flair the other games in the series have. No, this game is strictly a shooter with drugs and loads of swearing to try and pull it into the modern era, but it doesn’t succeed.

It was only a little less than a month ago that Ubisoft and Techland announced the third entry to the fan-favourite Call of Juarez franchise in the form of Call of Juarez: The Cartel – a game that would take the first-person action of the previous games from the ‘Old Wild West’ into the ‘New Wild West,’ and present-day Los Angeles.

Now the publisher/developer pair have released a debut trailer for The Cartel, and it sounds incredibly stylish, with a very interesting premise for a game. Catch it:

Ubisoft has today announced a third entry to the cult-classic Western series of first-person shooters, Call of Juarez, but instead of taking place in the ‘Old West,’ this new shooter will be set in modern-day North America.

Entitled Call of Juarez: The Cartel, players of the game will begin their journey in the streets of present-day Los Angeles and by the end of the adventure will find their way to Juarez, Mexico.

Here’s what director of marketing at Ubisoft, Adam Novickas, had to say about The Cartel:
