Last year we read about one of the legendary vehicles that would make up the quadruple pack of cars in the Legendary Cars Pack, coming to Burnout Paradise a little later this year.

The next three cars in the pack have now been revealed on the US PlayStation Blog, and they’re all pretty legendary. First up is a re-imagining of the Hunter Manhattan, called the Manhattan Spirit. Look a little familiar?

Available in 2009, Criterion has announced future downloadable content for Burnout Paradise that will feature some extraordinary vehicles, for some extraordinary racing options.

Burnout Paradise Car Pack 1

About a week ago, the first of the vehicle updates was announced, which includes a specially modified car, The Jansen 88 Special. Looks awesome already, but what’s so special about this car? It hovers. Apparently hitting L3 on your PS3 controller will retract the wheels from under the car to turn it into a hovercar. Crazy! As part of that pack, you’ll be able to pick up the Cavalry Bootlegger, Manhattan Spirit and the GT Nighthawk!

The other vehicle pack to become available next year is the Toy Cars Pack featuring, what else, toy cars! Screenshots of the hovercar and toy cars follows below:

Criterion, the developer of the Burnout series, have announced a new, special edition of their game, Burnout Paradise, entitled The Ultimate Box.

Burnout ParadiseThis new edition includes all of the free downloadable content players have had access to throughout the year following the game’s release, encompassing the Cagney and Bikes update, new features such as the race restart ability and the PlayStation 3-exclusive Burnout Paradise Network, as well as a new game mode, Burnout Paradise Party. What is this new mode? Glad you asked:

“Burnout Paradise Party brings the social fun of Burnout Paradise into an offline environment where up to eight friends can pass the pad to play competitively. There are dozens of quick-fire, turn-based challenges where players compete in different stunt, speed and skill events.”

If you already own Burnout Paradise, the Party mode will be available to buy separately as downloadable content. Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box is apparently due out in February next year. You can check out Criterion’s entry on the US PlayStation Blog for more info, as well as pictures of the staff taking turns to play the Party mode.

Burnout Paradise has been out for a number of months now, but Criterion’s commitment to the title, through their ‘Year of Paradise’ campaign, has ensured that players have a steady stream of new content, such as the latest patch, available now.

Burnout: Paradise Bikes

The new ‘Bikes Pack’ adds new content and game functionality, such as - you guessed it - bikes! New to Paradise with this update are vehicles of the two-wheeled persuasion, motorcycles, two of which are yours for the choosing, with a male or female rider. There are also significant game changes, with a day/night cycle that impacts traffic density and available events as well as dynamic weather, changing the complexion of Paradise City completely. Extra content also includes 38 new against-the-clock race events during the day (Burning Ride) and during the night (Midnight Ride) as well as 70 more Freeburn Challenges, exclusive to the bikes.

The new patch is now available on Xbox Live and at the PlayStation Store for the low low price of free.

Burnout Paradise is the latest in the series of car-smashing, slow-mo wreckage racing games. This much you know. Did you know, however, that you’ll be able to buy and download the full version of Burnout Paradise through the PlayStation Network later this year?

Burnout ParadiseIf you missed it the first time, you’ll be able to get Burnout Paradise for $29.99, including all of the updates Criterion have thus far released for the game, as well as support for PlayStation Trophies (Achievement-like rewards), all through PSN. This is a great sign of things to come as far as digital distribution goes, and only enforces Criterion’s ‘Year of Paradise’ campaign - their mission to support the game completely with new, free content.

If you can’t wait, however, Paradise is still available on PS3 and Xbox 360 as a disc-based game, but that format is *so* 2008.

Criterion Games has stamped a 10th of July date on its Burnout Paradise Cagney Update. The free update will be released for the Xbox 360 and PS3.

There will also be 70 new timed Freeburn Challenges along with leaderboards as well as a Hunter Olympus and secret Criterion Car, new liveries, custom soundtracks for the PS3 version and various bug fixes.

Criterion Games has unveiled three new modes for Burnout Paradise. The new game modes will be released as part of the Cagney update.

Online Stunt Run allows 8 players to simultaneously compete for the highest score within 2 minutes. The mode features an on-screen display as well as multipliers and eliminated players can still exact revenge.

Online Road Rage is an 8 player online team event. Players will either be on the team of runners (teams can only see one checkpoint ahead but must get to the checkpoint then the finish) or the team that has to take them down (teams can see the checkpoint and finish, choosing to ambush, take a shortcut or follow the pack).

Online Marked Man sees a marked man being randomly chosen every 90 seconds. Earn points for surviving if you are marked or taking down the marked man. The player who is the Marked Man can’t see attacking players on the map, has a slower car and does not get boost. Each session consists of roughly 10 – 12 minutes of game play depending on how many players are involved.
