EL33TONLINE: News tag archive: bulletstorm

A couple weeks ago El33tonline and EA South Africa teamed up to give you a chance to win Bulletstorm for either PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, and it was a raucous time!

Of course, Bulletstorm is People Can Fly’s latest supremely over-the-top first-person shooter (which is hammered home in our review of the game) and brings a gameplay mechanic called ‘Skillshots’ to the genre’s table, essentially giving you points for ‘Killing With Skill,’ allowing you to dream up vicious combinations of moves to destroy the game’s range of gun-toting maniacs.

For our competition, El33tonline asked you to come up with your own ‘Ultimate Skillshot,’ and you all certainly delivered! We should send the list over to People Can Fly and Epic for inclusion in the next game in the series (before locking you all in the loony bin!).

So, who won copies of Bulletstorm?

You’ve only got a few days left to stand a chance of winning a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 copy of Bulletstorm, Epic and People Can Fly’s super over-the-top first-person shooter!

All you need to do to enter this contest is head on over to the El33tonline’s Bulletstorm Competition page and tell us your idea for the Ultimate Skillshot!

What’s a Skillshot? You can find out all of the details at the competition page, and you may just get a few inspired ideas by reading El33tonline’s Bulletstorm review.

Let those imaginations run wild!

Have you entered El33tonline and EA South Africa’s competition to win a copy of Bulletstorm for either Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3? You haven’t?

I see.

Well, we’re giving away two copies of this destructive first-person shooter and all you need to do to stand a chance of winning the game is make your way over to El33tonline’s Bulletstorm Competition page, let your imagination run wild and invent a ‘Skillshot’ of your own.

What’s a Skillshot? Well, it’s basically an extremely brutal move in the game that uses a combination of weapons, melee attacks and the hazardous environment to creatively kill your enemies. For points.

But the competition explains everything you’ll need to know, and El33tonline’s Bulletstorm review will clue you in even further. It’s time to enter.

In the past I’ve used many words and terms to describe Bulletstorm: ‘Raucous.’ ‘Insane.’ ‘Over-the-top.’ ‘Explosive.’ ‘Intense.’ All of these are accurate when discussing any single aspect of People Can Fly’s latest first-person shooter, from second-to-second enemy battles and the range of weaponry, to the available set of combat abilities, enormous set-piece action and far-reaching sense of adventure.

I’ve also used another term to describe Bulletstorm: ‘Dude-bro.’ In most social circles, this term is somewhat derisive and refers to stereotypical juvenile behaviour on the part of males aged anywhere from their early teens to late twenties – gratuitous blue language and jokes referring to human genitalia and defecation are usually the order of the day for members of the ‘dude-bro’ social club.

Is Bulletstorm ‘dude-bro’ in its presentation? Yes. Will this affect your enjoyment of the game, either negatively or positively? Yes. Can the ‘dude-bro’-ness of Bulletstorm be overlooked for long enough to get through the eight hour singleplayer campaign, and engage in ‘intense,’ ‘over-the-top’ and ‘explosive’ set-piece action to see this game unfurl like a mighty, extremely rude flower?

That depends on you. Let’s find out.

A set of solid start dates have just been announced for the Gears of War 3 multiplayer beta, finally giving eager ‘Gear Heads’ (sorry, is that term already in use?) a chance to go hands-on with the game’s competitive online modes.

The beta was previously given a release window of ‘mid-April,’ although now it’s going to become available in ‘late April.’ But also ‘mid-April’…

Let’s clear this up:

El33tonline and EA South Africa’s latest competition is giving you a chance to win one of two copies of Bulletstorm – one for Xbox 360 and one for PlayStation 3 – and we’re going gruesome with this one!

Bulletstorm Box Art - PS3Bulletstorm Box Art - Xbox 360

As a gory, over-the-top and insanely intense first-person shooter, Bulletstorm naturally awards you points for the way you kill your enemies, be it with a simple kick into a wall of spikes, a well-placed explosive, or an intricate combination of bullets, boots and bombs!

These moves are called ‘Skillshots,’ and are all given specific names and score allotments which is extremely important in the game and allow you to progress effectively and efficiently.

So in order to celebrate the inclusion of these Skillshots in Bulletstorm, we’re asking you to come up with your own ideas for the ‘Ultimate Skillshot’ in the game. Get yourself over to El33tonline’s Bulletstorm Competition page, tell us your idea and you’ll be entered into the drawing to win either a PS3 or Xbox 360 copy of the game!

We would ask you to tame down the names of the Skillshots but much like the movie ‘300’: “This! Is! Bulletstorm!”

Go crazy!

This edition of the El33tonline Podcast is inhabited by two gnarly creatures who love nothing better than to spit hectic game about videogames - and this is exactly what they do this week!

Over the course of the episode, Tom and Oliver discuss the ‘dude-bro’ aspect of Bulletstorm, the respective merits of Lord of Arcana and Tactics Ogre, and a mess of important game news and announcements from the past week (Gears of War 3 talk ensues), all the while digging into our thoughts on what game developers do (and can do) to make our playing lives easier or more complicated (and just plain bizarre) by using technologies provided to them.

It’s chilled this week, so sit back, relax and listen in to our conversations in the El33tonline Podcast for the week of February 28th, and provide your own thoughts in the comments below.

The release of People Can Fly’s Bulletstorm is very near, and when this insanely action-crammed first-person shooter hits in two week’s time it’s going to be tough to think about it without images of crimson viscera splattering all over your screen.

So while we’re still a little ways away from launch, why not take a moment to enjoy a few chilled stills taken from the game to remember that Bulletstorm isn’t only about making a half-dozen enemies explode in the air while kicking, sliding and destroying a half-dozen other brutal foes, all in one action sequence.
