With Ridge Racer Unbounded’s UK release this Friday (March 30th) it’s time to turn the spotlight on this high-octane racing title. Earlier this month we posted an incredible trailer which showed some of the game’s cars and environments being ‘compromised’ or completely destroyed in a fantastic flurry of flying metal and explosions.
It’s been a while since we saw a racing game that puts as much emphasis on destruction as Ridge Racer Unbounded does. Not only can you create your own shortcuts by crashing through flimsy sections of the environment - you can also turn your opponents’ cars into burnt-out wrecks simply by giving them a not-so-friendly nudge from behind.
Want to know when the next new arcade-style racing game from Namco Bandai is due for release? Then you’re definitely in the right place, because Ridge Racer: Unbounded has been dated for March 2012, and will become available on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC!
“We are both creation, and destruction. We are metal – grinding metal. Shattered glass and fractured concrete. We… are lawless!
“Your rules don’t apply. We are ‘The Unbounded,’ and nothing gets in our way.”
Hmm, that’s nice to know.
The debut in-game trailer for Ridge Racer Unbounded has confirmed previous suspicious that Namco’s long-running drift-based arcade racing series would take a more Burnout approach, mixed with developer Bugbear’s physics- and destruction-oriented gameplay.
Also, the first ever screenshots for the game confirm that drifting is still in:
When Ridge Racer Unbounded was first revealed near the beginning of the year with a quick teaser trailer, it was apparent that the classic racing franchise was going for a more action-racing feel, and in the hands of Bugbear Entertainment (Flatout), it seemed all but confirmed that this next Ridge Racer game was going to be very physical (and use physics for new types of gameplay).
Namco and Bugbear Entertainment (Flatout) have today officially announced the existence of a brand new entry into the incredibly long-running series of Ridge Racer racing games, with a keen teaser trailer releasing alongside the reveal just to assure us of its authenticity. And the inclusion of Reiko.
Entitled ‘Ridge Racer Unbounded,’ this new game is scheduled for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC in 2012, and by the looks of the trailer may feature action racing elements similar to Burnout. Maybe.
