Brothers in Arms ImageAs we barrel closer towards this year’s E3 games show in Los Angeles in early June, we’re going to start hearing more and more confirmations of highly anticipated games, as well as reveals of new entries to older franchises.

Recently, Randy Pitchford of Gearbox (Borderlands, Duke Nukem Forever) uttered such a confirmation.

Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway is a game about inconsistencies and consistency. It inconsistently shows the brilliant depth of ordering your squad around in first-person. It inconsistently looks amazing. It inconsistently makes you feel like a soldier in the middle of a war zone. It also consistently pulls you out of an illusion, making you feel like you’re playing a videogame. It consistently frustrates you by pulling you away from its core triumphs. It consistently reveals what developers Gearbox were attempting, but failed to do. Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway promises to be a fantastic game, but ultimately is only ‘merely’ great.

After £600 000 worth of games were stolen from the truck of a resting driver in Northampton, England, the pilfered goods were located in Leeds when police noticed fake number plates of another truck transporting the ill-gotten loot. That truck was then taken to the police impound, only to be stolen again hours later.

The truck in question - Image Source: The SunThe same truck was then relocated after a few days, only without the prized games it was carrying. 16 000 copies of Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway for PS3, as well as miscellaneous other games, are now missing. The police have begun the search for the pinched games, turning to eBay transactions and postings. Several arrests have already been made in connection with the theft.

Ubisoft, the publishers of Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway, are quick to reveal that replacement copies are already on the way, but Gearbox head, Randy Pitchford, can’t be too happy about all this.

Following on from the excellent Brothers in Arms series, Road to Hill 30 and Earned in Blood, comes Gearbox’s new entry to the WWII shooter franchise, Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway.

The trailer, while pretty gruesome, also shows off some of the game’s marquee features, such as the destructible environments, slow-mo kill-cams and, most obviously, the intense graphical fidelity and ‘cinematic’ sequences. The hallmark, tactical aspect of the game, allowing players to order specific squads into position, is probably in there somewhere as well.

Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway releases on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 this week in the US and Europe on the 24th and 26th of September respectively, while the rest of the world can expect it next week on the 3rd of October. Can’t wait!
