Announced and glimpsed earlier this year, the limited edition Borderlands 2 ‘Ultimate Loot Edition’ has been formally revealed and detailed with an additional special version of the game, the ‘Deluxe Vault’ collector’s edition.

The co-operative first-person RPG’s official box art has also been outed, so if you want to see dual-wielded finger guns, this is a great place to do it.

Much like the press day for Gearbox Software’s other currently-in-development first-person shooter, the studio and publisher 2K Games recently held an event for Borderlands 2, a game for which we are still voraciously seeking out snippets of information, despite the fact that we know full well that we already want it.

Releasing in mid-September this year, Borderlands 2 is set to outstrip Gearbox Software’s previous effort in every way, with over-the-top action, characters, scenarios and enemies, with signature franchise humour that dials it up way past levels deemed safe for human consumption!

It’s official: Borderlands 2 is due for release on September 18th in North America and September 21st everywhere else, but that’s not the most interesting thing that 2K Games and Gearbox have released today.

No, that honour goes to the accompanying release date trailer for Borderlands which encourages everybody to ‘Get ready to joy puke our faces off.’ Not even lying.

“All games should have robot reinforcements from the moon base.”

A very wise piece of advice indeed, delivered by Gearbox Software’s Steve Gibson, who was at gamescom 2011 to demonstrate Borderlands 2 to a room packed with an audience twitching with anticipation. It was a piece of advice thinly veiled as a tongue-in-cheek challenge to other game developers – put more mechanical creatures in your games that are able to be called in from the moon base!

I tend to agree. All games should have robot reinforcements from the moon base, and in Gearbox Software’s Borderlands 2, not only are there lots of creatures and insane enemies to dispatch, there are also lots of robots!
