CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, Mike Morhaime said:

StarCraft II Zerg ArtNews from BlizzCon, Blizzard’s very own convention, reveals that StarCraft II will be released as a trilogy of games, instead of a single package.

The trilogy will cover the story of the three races, the Terran, Zerg and Protoss, and will be named Wings of Liberty, Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void respectively. The decision to release three separate games, which Blizzard liken to expansion packs, was as a result of their desire to create three, self-contained, epic story campaigns, instead of providing an abbreviated form of each. Each of the campaigns will be connected by an overarching story.

How multiplayer will work, though, is another question… Click through for some new footage from StarCraft II.
