SNK Playmore has announced the publisher’s intention to enter the fighting game arena once more, and release another entry to the King of Fighters franchise with The King of Fighters XIII.
Arc System Works have been making 2D fighting games since 1998 when they released the first game in the successful Guilty Gear series which has gone on to spawn a large number of expansions and spinoffs. BlazBlue (pronounced Blaze Blue), however, is a brand new game with a brand new universe of strangeness. The most immediately striking aspect of BlazBlue is the high definition anime art style which is polarizing in its appeal, but enough time playing reveals a very well crafted fighting game underneath.
As in just about all fighting games, fights take place between two characters and the goal is to beat the other character until they run out of health. This requires incredibly fast reflexes and a lot of practice in learning moves. Of course against the AI on easy levels things are not too hectic, but against human players you will need the speed of the fox to win. In BlazBlue every character has the same set of base moves – a light, a medium and a heavy attack (A, B and C, which you can map to any buttons on the controller of your choice) and each character also has a Drive attack (D) that is unique.
