Black Wii SmallThe dust has settled on the Japanese hardware chart this week, with the DS moving back to the top and the Wii sliding down a little.

The DS sold a combined total of 78 765 units, the DSi selling 70 066 and the DS Lite 8 699 units (both down from last week’s sales). The Wii slipped to number 2 this week, still selling an impressive 47 140 units, but almost half last week’s sales of 95 357 which were boosted by the release of Monster Hunter 3 and the black Wii.

Black Wii SmallThe Wii has emerged the best-selling console in Japan for the week ending the 2nd of August. Boosted by the release of the black Wii and Monster Hunter 3 for the Wii on the 1st of August, the Wii sold 95 357 units, roughly five times as much as last week according to the latest Media Create figures.

Monster Hunter 3 debuted at number 1 on the Japanese software chart with 520 000 copies, an impressive sales figure given that it was released in Japan on the 1st of August and it reached half a million copies in just two days. Check out the rest of the software chart here.

The eagerly anticipated Monster Hunter 3 was launched across Japan this past Saturday, the 1st of August. Capcom’s initial shipment of the game was over 1 million units, the publisher clearly confident that sales of the Wii exclusive title would reach record highs in its opening week - boosted by Japanese gamers’ eagerness to get their hands on a copy of the game and by the release of the black Wii which was available bundled with Monster Hunter 3.

Monster Hunter TriMonster Hunter 3 (Tri-) will be launching exclusively for the Wii across Japan this Saturday, the 1st of August. The game will be available either standalone or bundled with the black Nintendo Wii in the Monster Hunter 3 (Tri-) special pack, the first time a third party game has been bundled with the Wii.

It’s no surprise then that Capcom is anticipating huge software sales for Monster Hunter Tri, fueled by Monster Hunter fans scrambling to get a copy of the highly anticipated game and by gamers wanting to get the game along with the new black Wii.

Black Wii SmallNintendo have announced that a black Wii will go on sale in Japan on August 1st for the sum of ¥25,000 (roughly $260).

Black peripherals will also go on sale for prices ranging from ¥3,800 ($40) for a black WiiMote, ¥1,800 ($19) for a black Nunchuk and ¥2,000 ($21) for a black Classic Controller.

In addition, a new red DSi will also go on sale in the region on July 11th, which you can catch a glimpse of (as well as a full-sized pic of the black Wii) below:
