EA and developer BioWare have announced that Dragon Age: Origins has shipped over 3.2 million units worldwide.
“This is a tremendous start for the Dragon Age franchise and we are extremely pleased with the great reception the game has already received from critics and fans worldwide,” said Dr. Ray Muzyka, co-founder, BioWare and Group General Manager of the RPG/MMO Group of EA. “Our team is dedicated to crafting high quality, engaging new adventures and stories in the world of Ferelden for our fans!”
The on-again-off-again downloadable content (DLC) for Dragon Age: Origins, Return to Ostagar, is now finally officially available for purchase and download on PC and Xbox 360. The PS3 release of the DLC is still pending.
According to internal data from EA, Mass Effect 2 has sold more than two million units worldwide in its first week of release.
Dr. Ray Muzyka, co-founder, BioWare and Group General Manager of the RPG/MMO Group of EA said, “Mass Effect 2 is poised to be one of the biggest games of 2010. We could not be more proud of the game’s universal acclaim and early commercial success.”
BioWare has released the launch trailer for its upcoming sci-fi shooter RPG, Mass Effect 2, and it’s not going to make your wait until the release of the game next week any easier.
Mass Effect 2 will be available across the US on the 26th of January and a few days later on the 29th of January in Europe. Earlier in the week the developer announced that players would be able to download bonus content for the game on the 26th of January through a free “in-game portal” called The Cerberus Network.
In a post made on Bioware’s official forums, it’s been announced that the planned Dragon Age: Origins downloadable content (DLC), Return to Ostagar, has had to be delayed for a little while longer, as according to the post, “[Dragon Age: Origins] is an incredibly large, very deep and complex game, making it virtually impossible to test every system and permutation possible for each update/DLC.”
Dragon Age’s community facilitator, Victor Wachter, posting on behalf of the Dragon Age team, wrote:
True to its word earlier in the week, BioWare has announced that players will be able to download bonus content for Mass Effect 2 on the 26th of January. This DLC and news will be accessible for free through an “in-game portal” called The Cerberus Network.
Players will be able to activate The Cerberus Network by the single-use unlock code included in both retail and digital versions of the game worldwide. However, players who don’t buy the game new can also unlock the new network through a one-time in-game purchase of a new activation code.
BioWare has promised to release more details about the downloadable content for its upcoming space opera RPG Mass Effect 2 this week.
The developer also sought to quash rumours that it would be charging extra for any new content that may be released on the game’s launch day in the same post on the developer’s Twitter account.
[Update] Apparently (as these things usually go) and according to a post on the Bioware forums, there is an issue with a title update associated with the new Return to Ostagar DLC, and as a result, the DLC is being removed from Xbox LIVE until the issue has been resolved. [End of Update]
Dragon Age: Origins’ latest downloadable content (DLC), Return to Ostagar, has recently slipped onto Xbox LIVE Marketplace with nary a whimper (well, if you navigate your way to the ‘Downloadable Content’ menu in-game) for fans to continue the adventure.
In the run-up to Mass Effect 2’s release later this month (January 26th and January 29th in North America and Europe respectively), Bioware has released another video featuring yet another class available to play as in the developer’s space opera RPG.
The video showcases the Vanguard’s close-range combat abilities, as well as a cool ‘charge’ skill that quickly closes the gap between you and your target by travelling almost instantly (through obstacles) to get right in your opponent’s face.

EA and Bioware recently officially announced the existence of the Dragon Age: Origins retail-bound expansion pack, The Awakening, after rumours of the add-on began mounting over the holidays.
The Awakening will once again take on the role a Grey Warden, this time trying to restore an order of legendary warriors, while being tasked with discovering secrets surrounding the threat of the Darkspawn.
Players will also battle new enemies and monsters, including the “Inferno Golem and Spectral Dragon,” as well as another mysterious enemy going by the name of the “Architect.”
After attempting to whip Dragon Age: Origins fans into a frenzy with the announcement of new downloadable content (DLC) supposedly releasing today, Bioware has unfortunately announced that the expected content, Return to Ostagar, has been delayed.
Bioware Community Coordinator Chris Priestly posted on the Bioware forums to let everybody know:
From a post on the official Bioware forums, Community Coordinator at the developer, Chris Priestly, has detailed to fans how it will be possible to import saved game files from the original Mass Effect to use in Mass Effect 2, and what kinds of consequences you can expect to deal with if you do so:
“At this point we have revealed that the save game import system will carryover all your decisions and plot decisions from ME1 into ME2,” wrote Priestly. “Did you save the Council? Who survived Virmire? And how did you handle your most ardent fan?
“We don’t want to list everything out and spoil the surprises we have in store for you,” Priestly continued, “but rest assured you will be pleased when you see just how much carries over into Mass Effect 2.”
EA has released two new screenshots for its upcoming RPG, Mass Effect 2, both showcasing the Engineer combat class. Developer Bioware was kind enough to reveal the Engineers earlier this week in a new trailer for the game, which you can watch here.
Mass Effect 2 releases pretty darn early next year (January 26th in North America and January 29th in Europe), so if you’re interested in Bioware’s next space opera-esque RPG, you should start brushing up on the multitude of content that’s going to be packed onto those two discs.
For that, you can start right here and watch a quick video featuring the Engineer combat class from the game, revealing what kinds of tricks you’ll be able to pull off if you choose to follow this path:
In an absolutely shocking turn of events, it’s been confirmed that Bioware’s next space opera RPG, Mass Effect 2, will ship out on two discs.
For PC owners of the game, this won’t be too bad (PC gamers have been used to multiple disc installations for years), but for Xbox 360 gamers, this could prove contentious, forcing one to swap discs in and out at inopportune times while playing… or will it?
According to Bioware’s community coordinator, Chris Priestly, the disc swap for the Xbox 360 version of Mass Effect 2 will be almost negligible, as the developers have ensured such as inconvenience won’t impact on the experience. From a recent forum post, Priestly said:
