2K Games and developer Irrational Games have today announced a new release date for the pair’s exciting first-person action adventure game, Bioshock Infinite - and it’s not in 2012.
Irrational’s Ken Levine said in a statement:
Today, Irrational Games would like us to meet the fourth and final member of the ‘Heavy Hitter’ series of enemies in the studios’ Bioshock Infinite, following brief appearances by Handyman, Motorised Patriot and the Boys of Silence.
What horrific creature has the development team concocted this time?
Get a quick glimpse of the Siren in the developer diary below - trust us, that’s more than you want to see of this deranged apparition:
We’ve already been introduced to two of Bioshock Infinite’s ‘Heavy Hitter’ enemy types, the Handy Man and the Motorised Patriot, both of whom are big, bruiser type mechanical creations who would sooner shoot and crush you than give you a firm handshake.
This third Heavy Hitter, though… if those previous enemies were weird and creepy, then the ‘Boys of Silence’ take it to another chilling level of bizarre.
Now as quietly as possible, click through below and see what you’re in for when you meet one of these tuba folk:
2K Games and Irrational Games were very keen to unveil the Motorised Patriot last week, a colossal and unnerving enemy that we’ll all encounter in the publisher/developer pair’s Bioshock Infinite when the game releases in October this year.
One could draw parallels between the Motorised Patriot and the original Bioshock’s Big Daddy denizen, but being a member of Bioshock Infinite’s ‘Heavy Hitter’ range of enemies, the Patriot is much more of a ne’er do well bruiser than the Big Daddy ever was.
What about this new Heavy Hitter, though? The Handyman? What’s his deal? Let Ken Levine tell you all about him in a new dev diary, complete with brand new in-game footage from Bioshock Infinite:
You would be forgiven for thinking that the ‘Motorized Patriot’ in Bioshock Infinite is some sort of replacement for the Big Daddy enemies seen in Bioshock and Bioshock 2, but other than appearing as lumbering, hulking menaces, the similarities between the two are non-existent.
Irrational Games has just announced (and confirmed) an October release date for the studio’s infinitely exciting Bioshock Infinite!
What terribly distressing events await us in Bioshock Infinite next year? What heart-rending actions will we be subjected to?
As the latest compilation trailer for Bioshock Infinite reveals, it’s not all Skyhooks, blazing action and Fourth of July Summertime celebrations in the game. There will be tragedy and poignant moments of reflection, too. There will be events that deeply affect us and make us question ourselves.
And we expect nothing less from Irrational Games.
The highlight of this week’s US PlayStation Store update is the return of Sly Cooper in HD. All three PS2 titles starring the cunning thief have been remastered in HD and feature trophy and 3D support. You can purchase them separately for $9.99 or buy the complete bundle for $29.99, so it makes sense to first play through one before purchasing the rest of the collection.
PlayStation Plus subscribers can download a free 60-minute trial of all three Sly games, as well as one for de Blob 2 which is now a downloadable title on the Store. If you like what you see then you can pick up de Blob 2 for just $10 - half its regular price.
As revealed in the second part of a video developer diary for Bioshock Infinite, it’s incredibly difficult being a voice actor (or any actor, really) when you’re required to change and intensify moods and emotions on-the-fly to get the perfect performance.
Sometimes, you need a little… ‘encouragement’ from your colleagues to help you reach a particularly difficult emotion, which can result in a few tense moments.
In the first part of a brand new developer diary series featuring Irrational’s Bioshock Infinite, the voice actors of the game (who play protagonists Booker and Elizabeth) speak about their roles and what they enjoy about ‘inhabiting’ their characters, both of whom are on a literal and metaphorical journey of discovery in the incredible (and incredibly hostile) city in the sky, Columbia.
Last week, GTTV ran an episode of the show dedicated to Irrational Games’ Bioshock Infinite with thoughts and discussion offered by studio head Ken Levine, as well as GT’s own Geoff Keighley, while the full E3 2011 demonstration was revealed for the first time to the general public.
Now, the full 15-minute video demo has been released sans Levine and Keighley to allow you to enjoy the action and visuals without interruption. Grab a hot drink (or a cold one, depending), settle in and let the excitement of Irrational’s next first-person masterpiece wash over you:
Those lucky enough to see the full Bioshock Infinite demo behind-closed-doors earlier this year would have been treated to one of the most exciting showings of a videogame in recent years, save for the game’s initial reveal last year.
Now that E3 2011 is done and dusted, Irrational Games has seen it fit to release that gameplay demo in video form in its entirety, with Ken Levine and GameTrailers TV’s Geoff Keighley discussing the contents of this incredible first-person action game in depth.
Absolutely, definitely not to be missed – watch the full 20-minute episode of GTTV featuring Bioshock Infinite now:
Irrational Games has been very careful in revealing the world, characters and story of the team’s Bioshock Infinite, and despite a number of screenshots, gameplay videos and collections of gripping information, we still haven’t caught a glimpse of the game’s main protagonist, Booker DeWitt.
Thanks to the latest edition of digital mag EGMi, that’s all changed.
Irrational’s art team has put together an incredible cover for the magazine, inspired by issue 141 of X-Men, ‘Days of Future Past,’ released in 1981.
Booker does have a bit of a ‘Wolverine’ thing going on, doesn’t he?
It’s official: According to the Game Critics Awards, Bioshock Infinite is one of the games to watch out for in 2012, and with very good reason – it looks all kinds of exciting!
From all of the videos, screenshots and information we’ve managed to collect on Bioshock Infinite, it’s effortlessly become one of our number one most anticipated games of next year and by far the most exciting first-person action game.
But if this excitement wasn’t enough, Irrational Games has gone and released a super teaser gameplay video to reveal a little more of Bioshock Infinite, with footage taken from the demo shown at E3 this year. While it’s packed with in-game video, it raises many more questions than answers:
After announcing the nominees for this year’s Game Critics Awards ‘Best of E3’ winners, the organisation has revealed the full line-up of games that have received top nods, and according to the panel of 35 judges Bioshock Infinite is the game to look out for in 2012, while 2K Games might just have the most exciting games next year.
