Capcom’s full fiscal year 2009 financial results were released late last week, and as a result of a bare slate of new releases throughout the year, poor sales of its newer titles and release delays of major titles, profits fell 73 percent compared to the year previous, down to $23.6 million (¥2.2 billion).
Annual sales were also down 27 percent from last year, to $728.1 million (¥66.8 billion). Chief amongst the reasons for the slump in sales was the poor market performance of Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles on the Wii, and Bionic Commando and Dark Void on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Capcom has reported a 866% year over year increase in net profits for the nine months leading up to December 31st 2009, making up the first three quarters of its current fiscal year, resulting in ¥1.73 billion ($19.13 million) in net profits for the period, as net sales increased by 5% to ¥49.98 billion ($553.7 million).
Capcom posted financial results for their first quarter of fiscal year 2010 ended June 30th, and flying in the face of poor financial trends and a slow period in the game industry, the Resident Evil developer is able to boast profit growth and revenue increases, resulting in the best quarterly performance they have posted for this period yet.
Capcom has announced that the soundtrack for Bionic Commando will be available “real soon.”
The soundtrack, which features Bionic Commando themes from Jamie Christopherson, the Soundelux team and Bionic Commando Rearmed composer Simon Viklund, will be available digitally or on a disc from Sumthingdigital or on iTunes.
After a few years in development, the first fully 3D remake of Capcom’s 1988 Bionic Commando has been released (not to be confused with Bionic Commando: Rearmed), bringing with it not only the series’ unique brand of level traversal - in the form of a ‘grappling hook’ arm used to zip-line from ledge to ledge, or overhang to overhang – but an entire fleshed out 3D world and third-person perspective along with it.
The move to the third dimension, though, brings with it its own set of problems, and the solutions provided by developers GRIN and Capcom are hit-and-miss in nature, as though they misheard the question but attempted to answer it anyway with incoherent waffle. Frustratingly archaic restrictions and, in particular, the game’s main grapple and swing mechanic, both strike as muffled, incomplete attempts at solving inescapable problems met while taking on the mammoth task of converting (what nostalgic gamers call) a classic to the modern world of gaming.

The Major has just announced that the Bionic Commando demo is now up on XBOX LIVE:

It would be a good idea to get swingin’, shooting and ‘grappling’ now! The full game releases on on May 19th in the US, May 22nd in Europe and June 25th in Japan.
Capcom are getting creative again as they try to reveal the features behind their upcoming third-person shooter/swinger, Bionic Commando, in the form of official, supposedly classified laboratory reports.
After releasing the first trailer (lab report) that details the many and varied uses of Nathan Spencer’s (the protagonist) bionic arm, they’ve now released a new trailer (sorry… lab report) showing off Spencer’s combat abilities. Watch that below:

Here’s a video from Bionic Commando, the 3D remake of the classic NES platformer, simply showing off the swinging mechanic that the developers hope will be enough to separate the game from other third-person action shooters, including Capcom’s own Lost Planet.
The video also shows off a wide variety of environments and graphical splendour you can expect to encounter when the game releases in May and June this year on the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Earlier today we brought you news that Bionic Commando would be available in Japan on the 25th of June.
Since then Capcom has announced that their upcoming third-person shooter will be released across North America on the 19th of May for both the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Bionic Commando was first released with the 8-bit original on the NES 20 years ago but the new game boasts an online multiplayer mode that promises to bring it into the new generation of gaming.
Capcom confirmed that the PC version of the game will ship shortly after the console release but a specific date was not given.
Capcom have unveiled a firm Japanese release date for their upcoming third-person shooter/swinger, releasing on Xbox 360 and PS3.
June 25th (at a price of ¥7,340, or $75) is the date Japanese gamers can expect to get their hands on the title, development of which has been relatively quiet for the last few months…
A release date for Bionic Commando around the rest of the world is stamped as a tentative ‘May,’ although nothing’s been confirmed.

While Bionic Commando: Rearmed has just recently seen a release on PC, Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network in the US, the other, fully 3D Bionic Commando game is still in development.
