We’re all keenly aware that Battlefield 3 is going to be massive, with pre-order numbers for EA and DICE’s military shooter going through the roof as well as an insane amount of buzz rumbling around on the internet, and at this year’s gauntlet of game shows.
The fact that the online beta test for Battlefield 3 is said to be six times larger than a similar testing period for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 only confirms our beliefs that the launch of the upcoming action title is going to be unbelievably gigantic.
DICE general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson recently posted on the official Battlefield blog to talk more about the game’s magnitude:
EA’s comments to investors at the end of July revealed that pre-order numbers for the publisher’s upcoming blockbuster Battlefield 3 were, at the time, sitting at roughly ten times those of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 in a similar timeframe.
This achievement is quite outstanding considering Bad Company 2 went on to sell two million units on launch, no doubt spurred by healthy pre-order numbers of its own.
With just under two months to go until the release of Battlefield 3, what kinds of pre-order numbers are we looking at now, over a month since the initial ‘ten times greater than Bad Company 2’ claim was made?
As the excitement builds for EA and DICE’s next military-themed first-person shooter, Battlefield 3, there is one way for you to satiate your need for building destruction action and large-scale multiplayer warfare before that next blockbuster is released: Play Battlefield: Bad Company 2.
“But I’ve been playing vanilla Bad Company 2 for over a year now!” you cry. “I’m bored. I want Battlefield 3!”

In a new post on the official Battlefield blog, community manager zh1nt0 answers a few burning questions regarding the upcoming multiplayer beta test for EA and DICE’s massively anticipated Battlefield 3, as pre-order numbers for the game are hinted at.
Since the release of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Medal of Honor last year, EA CEO John Riccitiello has become wholly determined for his company to dominate the shooter game market, but the only way to achieve this goal is by toppling the current genre king: Call of Duty.
While Bad Company 2 and even Medal of Honor have allowed EA to make significant strides towards competing with the industry-stomping Call of Duty franchise, EA’s shooters have so far been unable to reach quite the sales success of Activision’s titles.
This year, with Battlefield 3 from EA and DICE, Riccitiello is confident that his company has the better product. Speaking to investors recently Riccitiello claimed:

The Vietnam expansion pack for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 isn’t even out yet, and EA and DICE are promising additional new content!
If you weren’t aware, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 – Vietnam will become available for Bad Company 2 owners on December 21st on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and December 18th for PC gamers on Steam and over the EA Store.
This new multiplayer offering adds a host of new weapons, vehicles and maps (naturally all themed around the Vietnam conflict) to vanilla Bad Company 2, but if you and your fellow gamers are able to reach a very special achievement, you’ll be rewarded with an extra map.
EA and DICE have announced official release dates for the companies’ upcoming Vietnam expansion pack for Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and hot dang if they’re not cutting it close!
Last week, an enormous patch (… OK, update) was released for the PlayStation 3 version of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 which added and fixed a couple things, and readied the game for the upcoming release of VIP Map Pack 7, as well as Battlefield: Bad Company 2 – Vietnam.
What about Xbox 360 and PC gamers? EA and DICE promised a similar pat… update would become available for your platforms soon, and now, thanks to an update (patch?) on the official Bad Company 2 blog, we know when!
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 players, you had best get prepared for a new onslaught of fixes scheduled to head your way very soon, as it’s recently been announced that a major game update is to be released between tonight and tomorrow (GMT 00:01 2010-11-24 to GMT 00:01 2010-11-25) for the PlayStation 3 version of the game.
A similar patch will be available for PC and Xbox 360 gamers soon, too.
The update will serve as preparation for the release of the announced VIP Map Pack 7, as well as the massive Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam later this year (still no date on that…), while a number of fixes will also be included - get the full list of those fixes below.
It was recently announced on the official Battlefield: Bad Company 2 blog that VIP Map Pack 7 is scheduled to release soon for the multiplayer portion of the military shooter, and with this new content, four brand new maps will become available that have never been seen before in the game.

By the looks of a new trailer for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam, this trend of awesome-looking, useful and fun flamethrower use in videogames is set to continue, as this specific weapon is highlighted in fantastic series of action scenes.

During a recent investor call announcing the company’s second quarter financial results, EA revealed units sales results for a handful of its top games, while also announcing that development of the troubled basketball game, NBA Elite 11, has been terminated.
Thanks to the release of a brand new and wholly destructive trailer for Battlefield: Bad Company 2: Vietnam, we now know how much we’re going to be expected to pay for the expansion pack when it’s available later this year.
