They may have begun in Australia, but the launch festivities for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 still aren’t over as evidenced by images and news arriving from our gaming friends on the west coast of North America, and the cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco in particular!
While the countdown continues in other parts of the world, there are people in some countries lucky enough to have already got the chance to lay hands on their retail copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3… like a bunch of fine fellows and fellowettes in Australia!
As a result of poorer than expected worldwide sales for Nintendo’s 3DS, the company has announced significant price cuts for its latest handheld, effective in August, in the hopes of increasing unit sales ahead of the all-important Holiday period in November and December this year.
Microsoft has confirmed to Eurogamer Spain that the company’s controller-free gaming device, Kinect, will only be able to recognise three distinct languages at launch, with voice recognition support for other languages to be added with a patch in the ‘Spring’ of 2011.
After a series of delays, SEGA and Obsidian Entertainment have stamped official-sounding worldwide release dates on the pair’s upcoming PS3, PC and Xbox 360 ‘espionage RPG,’ Alpha Protocol, releasing an enthralling cinematic trailer alongside the announcement to start the ‘ole Hype ‘O Meter revving.
After an unfortunate delay that pushed the release of Splinter Cell: Conviction back into the nebulous release window of ‘April,’ Ubisoft has come clean and revealed a solid, hopefully set in stone release date for the action sneak ‘em up.
The highly intriguing and intense looking first-person shooter/adventure game, Metro 2033, has been given a few release dates for the regions of North America, Europe and the UK, as well as Germany and Australia, via a status update on the game’s official Twitter page. From the tweet:
When Valve and publishing partner EA appealed the Australian rating board’s decision to refuse classification for Left 4 Dead 2 in the country, essentially making it illegal to sell down-under, Valve also sent through a cut down version of the game featuring altered content in order to pass classification.
That version of Left 4 Dead 2 received an MA 15+ rating, which meant that a censored version of the game would be allowed to go on sale, and would not contain “depictions of decapitation, dismemberment, wound detail or piles of dead bodies lying about the environment,” which was a major concern for the Australian ratings board, the OFLC.
Simultaneously, though, Valve and EA appealed the original classification refusal of a fully featured Left 4 Dead 2, dismemberment and all, which has now officially been denied a rating and will not go on sale in Australia.
On its first attempt at trying to become accepted by the age ratings board in Australia, the Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC), Left 4 Dead 2 had a miserable time and was ultimately rejected and denied a rating, which meant that Valve’s next zombie co-operative shooter wouldn’t be allowed to appear on store shelves in the country.
Valve recently appealed the rejection, however, by submitting a version of Left 4 Dead 2 to the classification board with altered content, in order to ease the board’s concerns over the game.
[Update] Details on what’s been cut from the Australian version of Left 4 Dead 2 follows below:
Microsoft Australia recently announced a special Gears of War/Xbox 360 bundle soon to be available in the country, with a release date of June 4th. What’s in the box?
Well apart from the mandatory Xbox 360 (Pro), both the original Gears of War, as well as Gears of War 2 will be included in the bundle, which will be available at participating stores for a RRP of $449 Australian.
If you live in Australia and you don’t have an Xbox 360, or the Gears games to match, this is your chance.
As with the inFamous console bundle heading to the UK, there’s no word yet on whether or not this Gears of War bundle will be available to the rest of the world.
