In a video featurette looking at what’s going on under the roof of Ubisoft’s Toronto offices, studio manager Jade Raymond (producer of Assassin’s Creed I and II) takes us on a short tour of the building and reveals that not only are there already 83 employees working on games, but that one of the project currently underway is the next iteration of Ubisoft’s stealth action adventure series, Splinter Cell 6
Find out about other goings-on at the Ubisoft Torontoy studio and get further progress updates from Raymond and the team with the featurette below:
The 28th annual Golden Joystick Awards took place today, an awards event that invites the gaming public to vote on their favourite games in order to recognise the year’s best titles.
1 543 309 votes came in this year and determined that Mass Effect 2 was the ‘Ultimate Game of the Year,’ as well as ‘RPG of the Year,’ while Assassin’s Creed II, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Plants VS Zombies also got a nod apiece.
2010’s edition of the Golden Joystick Awards included games released from August 2009 until August 2010, and the winners this year were:
In a bit of a shocking turn of events (if you paid no attention to the rumours), Patrice Désilets, a Ubisoft stalwart of 13 years and creative director on Assassin’s Creed and Assassin’s Creed II, has joined THQ and will be in charge of staffing up the publisher’s newly announced Montreal studio.
This news follows Désilets’s departure from Ubisoft earlier this year, just before E3 week.
What’s new and exciting on Xbox LIVE’s digital download service, Games on Demand? It’s none other than Ubisoft’s excellent action adventure game, Assassin’s Creed II!
Xbox 360 Assassin’s Creed II fans will this week be able to treat themselves to price reductions on a variety of the game’s downloadable content (DLC) packs, as well as Assassin’s Creed II themed Xbox LIVE Avatar accessories.
For one week only, and available to Xbox LIVE Gold members, here are this week’s Xbox LIVE deals:
Ubisoft has released its full fiscal year financial results for the 12 months ending March 31st, reporting a 17.7 percent drop in sales compared to last year, down to $1.08 billion (€871 million), with an additional drop in profits, down by 5 percent to $54.02 million (€43.7 million) compared to the year previous.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot blamed “[the] global economic crisis” for poorer than expected performance, which he reckons had “a pronounced impact on the video game industry in 2009, which contracted by nearly 10 percent year-on-year.”
Ubisoft has taken the wraps off of the mysterious Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood game, which has been mentioned by the publisher before but until last week, didn’t have a name to go along with the promises of multiplayer assassinations, and the return of Ezio from Assassin’s Creed II.
While the teaser website for Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood is a nice interactive distraction, showing off some of the new weapons to be included in the game with accompanying descriptions, concrete details and a couple teaser trailers from the title have been released as well.
2009’s excellent action adventure game from Ubisoft, Assassin’s Creed II, has today been awarded a Guinness World Record, and will be featured in the next iteration of the ‘Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition’ book for its achievement.
What’s the record?
April Fool’s Day is usually a torrid, confusing time for Mother Internet and her children, and for those that can afford to do so, it’s a good opportunity to stay away from the craziness and nonsense that gets passed around.
Sometimes, however, little gems will emerge on April 1st that otherwise may not have come to be - little projects that are days, weeks and sometimes even months in the making come to light to bring a smile to your face.
This latest video, a collaboration between Ubisoft and Kojima Productions, is such a gem, and should be watched by all fans of Assassin’s Creed and Metal Gear Solid - it’s truly awesome and properly hilarious!
As was hinted at the other day in another mysterious Assassin’s Creed II video, a new trailer has been released detailing the space dedicated to the game in Sony’s PlayStation Home virtual world.
The video shows off all of the activities you’ll be able to engage in, like watching Assassin’s Creed II videos, following the Twitter feed, roaming around the space solving puzzles and looking for clues… and even play a dedicated tower defence game that’s exclusive to the room.
Find out what you can get up to in Assassin’s Creed II’s virtual space in PlayStation Home below:

The winners of the GAME British Academy Video Games Awards were honoured late last week Friday, and as expected, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves received its fair share of nods during the evening, taking home four awards, but it was Batman: Arkham Asylum that ultimately took home the top prize: Best Game.
Also of note, legendary videogame designer Shigeru Miyamoto was present at the event to receive his BAFTA fellowship award (and, as an aside, mentioned that work on Pikmin 3 for the Wii is well underway… interesting).

VG247 is reporting that the PC version of Splinter Cell: Conviction won’t be joining its Xbox 360 counterpart when it debuts on April 16th in the UK, and will instead release to the public a full two weeks later on April 30th in the region, and the world.
Steve Perlman, founder and CEO of the cloud computing online game delivery service Onlive, has posted on the official Onlive blog to reveal that on June 17th, the ambitious technology “will be available for users in the 48 contiguous United States!”
This milestone, Perlman writes, will be achieved after “almost 8 years of development, thousands of partner meetings, millions of lines of code, and an uncountable number of all-nighters,” and will not-coincidentally occur over the week of this year’s E3 games and technology expo.
“Everyone here at OnLive is just incredibly excited about this milestone,” says Perlman. “It’s the realization of a dream that we knew would be a huge undertaking, but also one that would change everything.”
This week’s US PlayStation Store update sees the debut episode of Sony’s reality series, ‘The Tester,’ as the publisher tries to find the next great videogame quality assurance employee.
