Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown Logo

Do you like technical fighting games where strategy, counters/reversals and timing-based combos are your only path to glory? If so, you’ll be pleased to learn that Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown has been announced as a standalone downloadable title for Xbox Live and PlayStation Network.

Unfortunately the game is still some way off as publishers Sega are targeting a third quarter 2012 release.

The wraps were finally taken off of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 during Tokyo Game Show 2010, no doubt instilling boundless joy in those of us who enjoyed the original ‘Tag’ game from way back during the launch of the PlayStation 2.

Thanks to the currently-on-the-go AOU Amusement Expo in Japan, Namco has seen it fit to release a feature-intensive trailer for Tekken Tag Tournament 2, giving us extensive new looks at in-game footage, features, characters and environments - all of it good.

Problem is, it’s all in Japanese, but if you don’t understand the language you can still get the gist of the feature-list. It’s impressive, to say the least:

X-Men Arcade Logo and Start ScreenMore news coming out of New York Comic-Con this past weekend was the announcement that Konami’s 1992 ‘X-Men’ arcade side-scrolling brawling game will be making an appearance on Xbox LIVE Marketplace and the PlayStation Network “soon” (or ‘December’).

In addition, the game will reportedly feature a drop-in online cooperative mode for up to six players, with playable characters comprising Cyclops, Colossus, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler and Dazzler. As in the original game, you can’t duplicate characters (i.e. every player will have to choose a different character).

Even when Tokyo Game Show 2010 seemed to be ‘over’ as far as official announcements were concerned, a brand new game in the Tekken franchise was revealed to be in the works over at Namco Bandai.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is set to be released next year in Japan, and is the first and only sequel to the fan-favourite PlayStation 2 game that was left without further attention following its release in 2000.

Heading out to Japanese arcades, here is a 3D Castlevania game of a different kind.

Similar to a light-gun game, such as Time Crisis, Virtua Cop or House of the Dead, Castlevania: The Arcade sees players facing off against the evil permeating Transylvania, as you hack and slash your way (in first person) through the menacing hordes.

Looks pretty good, but who knows when it will make its way overseas. Watch the trailer for Castlevania: The Arcade below:
