A gaunt-looking Steve Jobs has officially announced and unveiled the iPhone 4 from Apple during the World Wide Developers Conference today.

During the showcase, Jobs and members of other companies who took the stage to promote the device mentioned the iPhone’s aptitude for games… several times, as newly introduced features make the iPhone 4 “perfect for gaming,” according to Jobs.

Apple has announced that it has taken the “difficult decision” to delay the international launch of the company’s iPad to the end of May, after incredible demand for the device in the US has left supplies low, and Apple reeling.

The successful launch of the iPad in the US has probably also left Apple with doubts over whether the company can effectively launch the product to similar demand internationally, as pre-orders for the iPad will only begin to be taken at the beginning of May.

Apple has announced that sales of the company’s latest device are off to a good start, as the iPad managed to move over 300 000 units on its first day of availability in the US on April 3rd.

In addition, iPad users have downloaded 250 000 eBooks from the specially set up iBookstore on day one, while one million application downloads for the device were also recorded.

Apple mercifully put eager followers out of their misery today by finally announcing the company’s latest product, the Apple iPad, as well as outlining the gadget’s features and capabilities.

During a special, invitation-only event in San Francisco today, attended by all walks of media, special guests and celebrities, Apple unveiled what rumours would have us believe is the company’s ‘greatest ever’ product, and from what was on show, that’s not far from the truth.

From the results of Forbes’ annual “Reputation Institute” survey of 600 companies, 200 companies have been listed in order of their reputation, and Nintendo have come out at No. 6 on the list, while Microsoft managed a place at No. 30, and Sony wiggled their way in at No. 126. Apple came in at No. 52

After a quick skim of the list, it appears as though no other game company (or company that deals in games) made the top 200, which excludes Electronic Arts, Activision Blizzard, Ubisoft and Take-Two, amongst other big name publishers, from the list.

Nintendo were beat out from the top spot by companies such as Ikea, Johnson & Johnson and Petrobras. Go figure. Check out the full list over here.

Microsoft have announced their intention to open their own chain of retail stores, which will be handled and run by ex-DreamWorks Animation executive, David Porter.

While no further details were revealed, such as how many stores would open, when they would open or what products would be available therein, it is clear that this move is in an attempt to counter the successful entry into the world of retail by Microsoft’s rival, Apple, and their chain of Apple Stores.

David Porter has been named Microsoft’s new vice president of retail stores.
