EL33TONLINE: News tag archive: announcement
After a brief period of mystery as Sony Computer Entertainment teased the announcement of a new entry to a tried and tested fan-favourite franchise, the publisher has today announced the existence of SOCOM 4, which is set to release in the Fall of this year, exclusive to the PS3.
SOCOM 4, a new tactical squad-based action shooter currently in development at Zipper Interactive, will feature a full singleplayer operation as well as a 32-person multiplayer mode, with an even greater focus on realism and teamwork than ever before.
Richard Yap over on the European PlayStation Blog has the skinny on the story setup of SOCOM 4, which goes a little something like this:
Crystal Dynamics has announced that a new entry to the continued adventures of Lara Croft will appear later this year in the form of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, and will be available as a digital download.
General Manager of Crystal Dynamics Darrell Gallagher said of the announcement:

According to a Twitter tweet by Sony Santa Monica’s Director of Technology, Christer Ericson, the upcoming game industry devastating action game God of War III will not, I repeat, will not require a PlayStation 3 hard drive install, and will only require a measly 5 MB of space on the ‘ole HDD for save games.
From Ericson’s status update:
The last time Capcom promised fans that a big announcement was imminent, it resulted in the news that online PC and PS2 game Monster Hunter: Frontier would be making its way to the Xbox 360 – certainly good news for fans, but not really anything to write home about.
Now, John Diamonon from Capcom has popped up on the US PlayStation Blog to reveal that a “huge announcement” from the publisher is imminent. From the post:
Despite the release of the first debut teaser trailer for Assassin’s Creed 2, leading to wild speculation around Mother Internet, Assassin’s Creed 2 has now been ‘officially’ announced, first with the trailer released earlier today, and now with words. Oh, and it’s actually Assassin’s Creed II, as Ubisoft get all Roman on us.
Apparently, the original Assassin’s Creed was super successful, selling over eight million copies around the world.
Ubisoft are probably hoping for a hit of similar proportions with Assassin’s Creed II, as the game has been in “intensive development” for over two years. Creative director at Ubisoft, Patrice Desilets said:
“Our creative team is working hard to top the experience of Assassin’s Creed. We’ve made improvements to every aspect of the game.
“We’ve plunged ourselves into the stunning history of the Italian Renaissance so that we can offer fans a unique, varied and innovative Assassin’s Creed experience.”
In Assassin’s Creed II, you’ll be playing in a vast open-world environment as the incarnate of Ezio, “a privileged young noble in Renaissance Italy who’s been betrayed by the rival ruling families of Italy.” You’ll be able to wield a diverse set of weaponry in a variety of missions as you are plunged into “a captivating and epic story.”
Assassin’s Creed II is gearing up for release by the end of this year, or a “Holiday 2009” release, if you prefer.
