The DBNGamers IV gaming event this past Friday evening was tremendous fun for the simple fact that it gave us a chance to meet local like-minded people and share discussions with individuals who treat our hobby as seriously as we do.
It’s not often you meet perfect strangers and are able to immediately jump into a matched, passionate debate over the merits of expensive downloadable content, after all.
Events such as DBNGamers IV are also perfect opportunities for like-minded individuals to snag some swag and prizes, which is exactly what a number of gamers managed to do last Friday!
The monthly gathering of Durban gamers has grown from humble beginnings, it must be said.
The first get-together in December was very casual and played host to seven Durbanites, while the second meeting enjoyed an attendance in the double figures. DBNGamers 3.0 was about consolidation, and a little over 20 gaming and geek culture enthusiasts gathered to chat over pizza and drinks, keeping it ‘Durban style’ – laid back and chilled to the max.
Last Friday night, however, the fourth meeting of Durban gamers took place at Waxy’s Restaurant in Westville and by the end of the evening, DBNGamers IV boasted attendance figures nearing 60.
Explosive!
This just in from our news desks in Durban, South Africa: A recently held gaming event known as ’DBNGamers IV’ was, quote, “a complete success.”
Maybe we’re getting a little too clingy, but we’re simply excited to share all of the cool activities and goodies we have planned for all of the Durban Gamers tomorrow!
As El33tonline sat down to plan our events and activities for 2012, our mantra for the year became clear: Go big or go home.
We handily demonstrated this motto with our tour of South Africa’s gaming events in January, and while our future exciting plans for 2012 will need to remain locked up and secret for now, this week’s gaming event in Durban, DBNGamers IV, will once again be an opportunity for El33tonline to demonstrate our commitment to the local gaming community.
This time, however, we’re going to go big and stay home in Durban!
The next meeting of Durban gamers has snuck up on us and takes place this Friday, March 16th, but there’s still plenty of time to make room on your calendar and shove appointments out of the way!
Why would you want to tell family and friends that they won’t be seeing you this Friday evening? Why would you choose to attend the March edition of DNBGamers instead of relaxing in front of the telly with a movie?
Can you hear it? The rustling of lists? The clearing of throats? The shifting of weight in nervous anticipation? We’re getting ready to tell you why!
Leading South African ADSL service provider Afrihost recently held an outstanding, jaw-dropping sweepstakes giveaway that aimed to reward its clients by giving them a chance to win one of three 42” 3D LG TVs, simply for taking part in an effortless survey.
Generous!
The 2011 ISP of the Year went a step further still, and if you won one of the TVs and you ‘happened’ to be a member of El33tonline, you would get a PlayStation 3 and a copy of Uncharted 3 in addition to the massive viewing box!
Out. Of. This. Universe!
Well, the winners have been selected and notified, and we’re ready to announce two of the three lucky recipients now, and guess what - one of the winners is a member of El33tonline! Words can’t describe how happy we are!
Let’s take a look at the winners:

Gamers in Cape Town are a very enthusiastic bunch, it must be said. During the presentations at 2upGamers’ recent Third Encounter gaming event, none of the attendees were stingy with their voices, cheering and clapping for all of the guest speakers and their exciting announcements.
The enthusiasm of the gamers of Cape Town was also demonstrated by the fact that dozens of Third Encounter attendees arrived at Friends of Design (the location for the event) well ahead of the scheduled time and stayed late into the evening, which gave El33tonline the chance to snap a few pics of these creatures in their natural habitat…
2upGamers’ recent Third Encounter event was a tremendously fun time - this much we already know - and gave the gamers of Cape Town (and two from Durban) a chance to meet, greet, eat and… beat one another in games of FIFA 12, Fight Night Champion and Need For Speed: The Run.
Third Encounter also gave Lisa and I the chance to meet (mostly for the first time) our fellow online gamers who we play Gears of War 3, Battlefield 3 and Uncharted 3 with - the perfect photo opportunity!
If you’re on the fence about attending this week’s South African gaming events in Johannesburg and Cape Town, let El33tonline and Afrihost give you something more to think about!
El33tonline has once again partnered with South African ADSL service provider and ISP of the Year for 2011, Afrihost, to bring the company’s signature ‘Pure Internet Joy’ to gamers at both 2upGamers’ Third Encounter and JHBGamers’ EA South Africa Community Meet-up.
