I’m an ardent fan of El33tonline’s Gears of War Wednesday’s, and play on a 32inch Samsung with a Yamaha A/V receiver that threatens to blow the windows out when I crank up the volume to really enjoy the subtle sounds woven into the Gears of War 3 sound tapestry. It’s an enjoyable experience and I love the sound quality on my Yamaha, however, I’ve been rather enjoying the Gears of War 3 Stereo Headset from MadCatz lately.

Japan is the place to be this December when the PlayStation Vita makes its worldwide debut there on the 17th. Those lucky ladies and gentlemen with a bit of cash to spare after buying the feature-laden handheld and a game or two from the 26 titles on offer will probably be making a beeline for the accessories shelf, which will offer all sorts of official Sony extras for their precious new acquisition.

Hardcore PC gamers will do anything to improve their game. Back in the day it was all about bigger monitors with higher resolutions for crystal clear detail so you can see the sweat on your opponent’s face. It was about graphics cards that tap enough power to power a small third-world country, and cost enough to settle its debt. It was about water-cooled CPU’s so you can squeeze that extra frame per second out of the silicon. But often a good mouse is the second to last item on the list of required upgrades, right before the mouse pad. But that is in the past. These days mouses (or mice, depending where you are from) are as integral to a good gaming system as everything else.

If you have ever heard great sound in a game, coupled with perfect surround speakers, you will know just what a big role sound really plays in creating believable environments. Having sound from all around also helps you pinpoint those attacking zombies a lot easier than spinning around trying to find them.
