Following the appearance of heavy rumours, and ahead of its supposed reveal at San Diego Comic Con this week, Activision has formally announced the existence of GoldenEye 007: Reloaded for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, complete with PlayStation Move and Sharp Shooter support, new gameplay modes, increased multiplayer options and 60 frames per second ‘HD’ visuals.
These mentions of “new” gameplay modes and “increased” multiplayer options point to a confirmation that GoldenEye 007: Reloaded is a high definition port of the Wii first-person shooter, GoldenEye 007 (if the name didn’t clue you in right away).
According to a post on Kotaku, the next entry to the up-again-down-again series of James Bond games will be revealed at San Diego Comic Con this month, in amongst new showings of Activision’s X-Men: Destiny, Spider-Man: Edge of Time, and Prototype 2.
This next James Bond game has a high likelihood of being named ‘GoldenEye Reloaded,’ following the registration of a swathe of internet domains by Activision Publishing.
The football mad populace comprising ‘the UK’ has this week turned out in droves to purchase SEGA’s latest management simulation title, Football Manager 2011, thus ensuring the game a place atop Chart Track’s UK Software Sales listing ahead of big hitters FIFA 11 and Fable III.
This is the second PC-exclusive title to hit the No. 1 spot on the chart in 2010, following StarCraft II’s appearance earlier this year.
Despite the release of this interloper, FIFA 11 (sales down 24%) is a non-mover at No. 2 this week, but Fable III (sales down 64%) shifts from No. 1 to No. 3.
For fans of James Bond, this week must be pretty special with the release of the first-person shooter Wii title, GoldenEye: 007, as well as this other action title, James Bond 007: Blood Stone.
Blood Stone eschews the first-person side of things seen in Activision’s previous James Bond game, Quantum of Solace, and goes all out with the third-person action as you snap, crack, pop and break enemy’s arms, necks and collar bones with reckless abandon.
Naturally, you’ll get to shoot a weapon or two, and drive very fast cars very fast, thanks to developer Bizarre Creations’ racing pedigree.

When El33tonline got a chance to check out GoldenEye 007 at gamescom 2010, we came away very impressed with the James Bond-themed first-person shooter, and even if the game is a little… lacking in the graphics department (seeing as this is a Wii game), it seems like the development team is pushing things to the limit, and injecting clever, modern-day design ideas into both the singleplayer and multiplayer portions of the title.
Also: The game has tons of explosions, which is nice.
What better way to showcase those explosions and the extremely fast-paced nature of the game (as well as the multiplayer) than in a launch trailer for GoldenEye 007? Watch below:
El33tonline was fortunate enough to attend gamescom 2010 in Cologne, Germany last month. We got to spend some amazing hands-on time with a vast number of awesome games and chat to their developers. Certainly the highlight was meeting some of the industry’s icons.
All in all it was an amazing experience that enabled us to share a wealth of information with you, our readers. We hope to be back next year to continue bringing unique quality content to the South African gaming community.
Here is a round-up of our hottest coverage from the event:
For the sake of this article you could probably say that there are two categories of gamers in the world, those who played GoldenEye 007 on the N64 back in 1997, and those who didn’t. Regardless of which category you fall into, GoldenEye 007 may appeal to you since the developers are seeking to draw in a new audience while still keeping the nostalgia that fans of the franchise harbour intact.
It’s a delicate balancing act, one that no doubt has provided developer Eurocom with many challenges along the way. But judging by the authentic James Bond gameplay experience that we enjoyed at a behind closed doors presentation at gamescom recently, they’ve done a pretty good job of striking the balance just right and building a foundation for a really action-packed adventure that features the more lethal and gritty style of Daniel Craig’s James Bond.
Activision has released a new re-imagining featurette video for GoldenEye 007, where the developers, David Wilson and Julian Widdows, discuss the challenge of meeting the expectations of GoldenEye fans against the backdrop of more gameplay footage.
GoldenEye 007 for the Wii was announced during this year’s E3 as a kind of remake of (and/or successor to) the classic N64 first-person shooter, GoldenEye, and even though it won’t be a completely faithful recreation of that legendary title, by the looks of the latest screenshots and trailer, the game has the potential to be a knockout.
Combining a strong James Bond license with Call of Duty-esque blockbuster action is always going to get a good portion of gamers (and Activision executives) excited, so we’ll have to wait and see if GoldenEye 007 delivers on the promise.
GoldenEye 007 was recently announced exclusively for the Wii, featuring classic James Bond action with eight classic James Bond characters such as Jaws and Oddjob, with Daniel Craig starring as 007.
The game will also feature classic split-screen and online multiplayer options, with 16 special and classic game modes.
It’s classic, is what I’m saying.
