A scan of an internal Best Buy memo suggests that the 80GB PS3 will be discontinued by Best Buy.
The scan, sent rather sneakily to PS3 Fan Boy, states “The 80GB version of the PS3 is going closeout and won’t be replaced at this time. It will come off the planogram on Jan. 28. The 60GB version should already be gone from stores. Only the 40GB version of PS3 will be sold in Best Buy stores at this time.”
If gamers are left with only the 40GB PS3, it will mean that backwards compatibility will be a thing of the past and two USB ports will become standard. There has been nothing to suggest that Sony is planning to bring in a new model, only rumours of the white model which is apparently hitting North American shores shortly. Interesting to note that Best Buy has removed the 80GB PS3 from its site too.
