Capcom’s latest installment in the popular Monster Hunter series, Monster Hunter Freedom 2G, has passed the 2 million mark in Japan. The game was released in Japan on the 27th of March which means it has sold 2 million in less than a month.

According to Capcom’s Chris Kramer in a post on Capcom’s blog, “There are a little over 9 million PSPs in Japan — this means that 1 out of every 4.5 PSP owners in Japan owns a copy of MH2G.”

Kramer continued “When you factor in that there have been multiple types/colors of PSPs released in Japan, that number probably comes down significantly. That’s a heck of an attach rate.”

Earlier in the year Capcom announced that it had shipped over 1 million units of the PSP game in just six days in Japan, making it the fastest in the popular Monster Hunter series to become a million-seller.

Capcom also announced that the Monster Hunter series has sold a total of 6.3 million units since the first MH title was released for the PS2 in 2004. Capcom hopes to expand the series by bringing it to multiple platforms. Last year it made a surprise announcement that Monster Hunter 3 would be heading exclusively to the Wii.
